  • Patent number: 6990502
Abstract: A computer network has storage devices organized into X levels and storing element-group information. To determine whether an element is a member of any target groups, each target group is validated by searching the storage devices to find a target group item and, if found, placing the target group in a validated target bin (V). Also, the element is validated by searching the storage devices to find an element item, and if found, determining from the item all groups that the element is listed as being a member of and placing such member-of groups in a search bin (S). If (S) intersects (V), the element is a member of a target group. If not, all groups in (S) are moved to a queue (Q1) corresponding to the storage device at level 1 and an iterative process searches for a membership path from the element to any target group.

  • Publication number: 20050047395
Abstract: An enhanced computer telephony integration system that facilitates the interaction and integration of a private branch exchange (PBX) with a client computer on a computer network. An enhanced telephony (ET) server connects to the PBX and to all running instances of an ET client on a user's computers. The ET server acts as a proxy between the ET clients and the PBX. The ET clients register with the ET server for a certain telephone extension. The ET server then can forward telephone action requests (such as placing a telephone call) from the registered ET clients to the PBX servicing the telephone extension. Moreover, the ET server can relay telephone events (such as an incoming call) from the PBX to all registered clients. The ET server facilitates seamless integration of telephone and personal computer features to provide a rich user-controlled computer-telephone integration for a user.

  • Publication number: 20040168077
Abstract: An organization maintains a computer network comprising at least a forest A and a forest B, where forest A has a directory A and a querying entity A capable of querying directory A, and forest B has a directory B and a querying entity B capable of querying directory B. Querying entity A receives a request from the user and decides whether to grant the request based at least in part on whether the user is a member of the group. Thus, querying entity A queries directory A to return information on the group, is directed to forest B, contacts querying entity B, requests querying entity B to query directory B whether the user is a member of the group, receives a response, and grants the request from the user based at least in part on whether the user is a member of the group.

  • Publication number: 20040158731
Abstract: A licensor receives a request from the requestor, where the request includes rights data associated with digital content, and where the rights data lists at least one identifier and a set of rights associated therewith. The licensor selects the identifier and the set of rights associated therewith, where such rights are expected to be set forth in a corresponding digital license, and also selects based on the identifier an alternate set of rights. The alternate set of rights are substituted for the set of rights from the rights data, and the license is issued to the requestor with the alternate set of rights, whereby the alternate set of rights in the issued license sets forth terms and conditions that the requestor must adhere to in connection with rendering the corresponding content.

  • Patent number: 6751778
Abstract: Methods and systems for rendering information pages are described. A page is divided into panes which are rendered by individual pane renderers. The pane renderers can be shared between pages, or even re-used across multiple applications. Rendering support components or objects are provided and can provide access to shared services or data (e.g. ads, user preferences, scripts, and styles) that might be required by multiple panes on a page. Page descriptions comprising pane renderers are created dynamically in a prescribed fashion by an application. A page renderer service in a platform then processes the page description and causes the appropriate RSOs to be called, initialized, and used by the pane renderers to render the page.

  • Patent number: 6718549
Abstract: Methods for managing the distribution of client bits to client computers are disclosed. The methods of the present invention are particularly suited for use in a network environment in which one or more clients are networked with at least one server via a communications network. The communications network can be a LAN, WAN, intranet, or the Internet. The client version of one or more selected applications software components (the “managed components”) is determined on the client computer. The client queries the server to determine the most current version of each of the managed components. If the client version is not the most current version, or if the client version is missing on the client computer, a determination is made whether to download the most current version onto the client. If the determination is made to install or upgrade one or more managed components, the most current version of each of the selected managed components is downloaded onto the client computer.

  • Patent number: 6691176
Abstract: A service manager for managing services and objects called by browser scripts is employed. The Web browser script is not in direct communication with the service manager; instead, a connector object is mapped by the script into the scripting space. For function calls that the script would previously make to the service or object directly, the script makes a call to a connector object. Depending on the browser brand, the connector object is of a different format e.g., an ActiveX control or a Plug-In. The first time such a connector object is created and mapped into a scripting space, the service manager is initiated and all of the services and objects that are managed by the service manager are loaded. The connector object packages the function call to a service for interpretation by the service manager. A script wrapper is a small object between the scripting space and the connector object, and allows script to be written without regard to different browser brands.

  • Publication number: 20040001594
Abstract: A key management interface that allows for different key protection schemes to be plugged into a digital rights management system is disclosed. The interface exposes the functionality of signing data, decrypting data encrypted using a public key, and re-encrypting data encrypted using the public key exported by the interface to a different authenticated principal (i.e., a different public key). Thus, a secure interface can be provided such that the data does not enter or leave the interface in the clear. Such an interface exports private key operations of signing and decryption, and provides security and authentication for the digital asset server in licensing and publishing. During publishing, a client can encrypt asset keys such that only a specified entity can decrypt it, using a plug-in, for example, that implements the aforementioned interface.
