  • Patent number: 11571944
Abstract: A thermal system for a vehicle includes a high temperature coolant loop thermally coupled to a heater core, a low temperature coolant loop thermally coupled to at least one of an electric motor and power electronics, and a first four-way valve configured to selectively fluidly couple the high temperature coolant loop and the low temperature coolant loop such that coolant heated by the electric motor and/or the power electronics is directed to the heater core to facilitate heating of an airflow passing thereby.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 24, 2020
Date of Patent: February 7, 2023
    Assignee: FCA US LLC
Inventors: Craig A Lindquist, Changchun Li, Attilio Crivellari

  • Patent number: 11203247
Abstract: A thermal regulation system for an electric drive vehicle has two loop circuits provided with respective pumps, for circulating heat transfer fluid, and with respective heat exchangers for cooling the heat transfer fluid. A battery pack and an electric/electronic drive unit are arranged in parallel with each other in the first and second loop circuit respectively, so that they are cooled by the heat transfer fluid at flow rates which are different from each other, when the two circuits form a single cooling circuit. At least one Peltier cell is arranged along the first loop circuit to heat the heat transfer fluid circulating towards the battery pack.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 1, 2020
Date of Patent: December 21, 2021
    Assignee: FCA ITALY S.P.A.

  • Patent number: 11091007
Abstract: A hybrid vehicle includes a thermal control system having a first high temperature cooling circuit, a second low temperature cooling circuit and a third cooling circuit for cooling/heating a battery pack. A system of valves is configured to connect the third circuit with the second circuit so as to create a loop consisting of a main portion of the third circuit and a main portion of the second circuit including the cooling portion of one or more electric motor assemblies of the hybrid vehicle, one or more additional components of the motor-vehicle, such as a turbocharger assembly and an intercooler assembly. In this operating condition, circulation of the liquid in the loop thus-formed can be activated by the pump of the third circuit and causes heating of the battery pack by the heat generated by the electric motor assemblies and, preferably, by the aforesaid additional components of the motor-vehicle.
