  • Patent number: 5154481
Abstract: Vehicle roof with at least one cover that, alternatively, closes or at least partially opens an opening in a fixed roof surface of the vehicle, carries a solar power source for supplying power to at least one power consuming device that is separately located from the cover, and with a contact device for producing an electrical connection between the solar power source and the consuming device. The contact device is made as a switch arrangement that incorporates the cover so that the power consuming device is connected to the solar power source in one or more predetermined cover positions and is disconnected from the solar power source in all other cover positions.

  • Patent number: 5020850
Abstract: A sliding type vehicle roof is provided having guide tubes for pressure-resistant drive cables that are positioned, in the zone of contact area between the drive cables and a drive device, in a sheathing part that is formed about the guide tubes and acts as a holding device for the guide tubes. In the sheathing part, there is provided at least one recess to accommodate a drive pinion of the drive device, and a central opening in the base of the recess for accurately locating the drive pinion. Further, the sheathing part functions as a support for the drive device, that is suitably attached to the sheathing part with the aid of screws, and a defined seat can be provided on the sheathing part to receive the top housing part of the drive device. The sheathing part with the drive thereon can be attached to the frame, which can be set into a roof opening of a vehicle roof.

  • Patent number: 4548439
Abstract: A telescopic winch for tilting a cover closing a roof opening in a motor vehicle, with a plurality of threaded parts, screwable into one another, of which the outermost or innermost is connected with an axially fixed wheel and the other threaded part is connected with the cover. In order to make a telescopic winch of this type electrically drivable and to provide it with an emergency manual drive, provision is made for a crown gear to be on an outside jacket of the wheel, said crown gear being in mesh with a worm shaft of an electric motor unit, and for the mesh between the crown gear and worm shaft to be releasable. Separation between the crown gear and the worm shaft can be accomplished either by removing the wheel or by pivoting the electric motor unit.

  • Patent number: 4428614
Abstract: A vehicle roof with a roof opening and a removable cover for closing the opening of the type wherein the cover is attachable to a roof frame in the vicinity of its forward edge by means of a releasable swivel connection about an axis running at right angles to a lengthwise axis of the vehicle roof and having a rear edge pivotable out of the roof plane, upward and outward, by means of a tilting device that is releasable from the cover is improved by the provision of a safety device for releasing the tilting device from the cover only when the cover is in its closed position. In accordance with a preferred embodiment the safety device includes an unlocking element for releasing the tilting device from the cover which is constructed in the range so as only to be accessible when the cover is closed. In the closed position the unlocking element can be operated by means of a coin or like object so as to be shifted from an engaged or disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 4296962
Abstract: A wind deflector for sliding roofs of motor vehicles is mountable near the forward edge of a roof opening so as to be swivelable near its forward edge about an axis which runs at right angles to the lengthwise axis of the vehicle and is formed of a sheet metal strip and an overlying plastic strip that is connected thereto. The plastic strip can be connected with the sheet metal strip by either bonding, (e.g., adhesive or ultrasonic welding) shrink-fitting, clips, or the like. According to a preferred embodiment, the plastic strip is formed with internal chambers and is mounted in association with a metal strip so as to present a surface of the plastic strip that is at approximately the same height as an adjacent surface of the metal strip.

  • Patent number: 4191068
Abstract: A drive arrangement for sliding roofs, window panes, and other similar sliding members of motor vehicles is constructed for motorized operation and also for emergency manual operation. According to a preferred embodiment, the driving shaft of the drive arrangement has a first part of a clutch constrained from movement therewith and a second part displaceably mounted relative to the first part for interconnecting the drive motor with a drive pinion and for disengaging the drive pinion from the drive motor in a second relative position of the clutch parts. The driving force transmittable between the above-noted clutch parts is controlled by an adjustment member mounted on the driving shaft. The adjustment member can be connected to a manually operable handle for emergency operation of the sliding member by a handle through the use of a locking member which secures the adjustment member relative to the driving shaft in a plurality of positions.

  • Patent number: 4162805
Abstract: A drive arrangement for a movable panel member of a vehicle includes a rotatable driving member such as a drive pinion, which member is supported upon a shaft that is drivingly connected to a crank member so as to enable rotational movement of the crank to be transmitted to the pinion. To enable rotation of the crank to a stowage position in any panel member location, a lost motion device is provided for permitting substantially 360.degree. of relative rotation between the crank and the pinion without rotation of the pinion. According to preferred embodiments of the invention the lost motion device is formed by a free travelling member being disposed between either the crank and the shaft or between the shaft and the pinion in the form of a ball contained in a pair of grooves, one of which is helical and the other of which is straight.
