    Abstract: A network scan may be performed, and the best network may be selected in real time in the device after evaluating all available carriers whose network information is gathered by network scanning The network scan enables the device to fairly compare the connectivity of the available carrier services and can be used to improve the on-device network selection. The network scan may be further used in order to ensure the existence of a better carrier service before switching. Accordingly, this may reduce unnecessary poor switches to networks having lower quality connections and increase good switches to networks having better quality. The present disclosure provides for determining when to run network scan and how to use the scan results to make the cell network selection decision.

    Abstract: A device for determining the distance between two points on a surface or surfaces in 3-dimensional space, regardless of the orientation of the points relative to the device, provided an unobstructed line-of-sight between the device and both points. The device includes two distance measuring range finders that are joined by a hinge. The hinge includes a rotary encoder for measuring the angular displacement of the two sensors. By utilizing the distance measurements that each range finder relays, as well as the angular displacement measured by the rotary encoder, the microcontroller determines the final length between the two points and displays it through a display screen.

    Abstract: A system for providing selective access to a food cavity including a base defining the food cavity. A cover is connected to the base and moveable between a closed condition wherein the cover prevents access to the food cavity and an open condition wherein access to the food cavity is available. A ring antenna is supported relative to the base such that it extends generally perpendicular to a base surface of the base and is positioned forward of the food cavity. The ring antenna defines a circumferential ring with an opening therethrough and contains an RFID coil over at least a portion thereof about the opening. A motor is configured to move the cover from the closed condition to the open condition upon sensing of a registered RFID identification proximate to the ring antenna.
