  • Patent number: 6056409
Abstract: An adapter connects a small solid-state television camera to a viewing port of a microscope. The adapter has a zoom lens system to focus the image from the microscope mounted in a zoom lens barrel. The lens barrel is moved by rotation of a shaft of a pulse motor through a worm gear. A mirror within the housing in its normal position, reflects the image 45 degrees and is a flat disk-shaped mirror mounted for universal movement about its center. The angle of the mirror is controlled by a control rod which is connected to a gear bracket by a ball. The gear bracket is moved one direction by a first motor connected to a worm gear. The bracket is moved in another direction by a second motor and gear which meshes with gear teeth on the bracket.

  • Patent number: 6050688
Abstract: An auxiliary lamp for a slit lamp device used in eye examination, to improve digital photography of the eye being examined, includes a casing and a fiber optic bundle terminating in a glued and polished end face, which end face forms a light emitting line. A cylindrical lens is positioned in front of the end face and is adjusted by a finger-operated screw device to be moved toward, and away from, the end face to focus the line of light.

  • Patent number: 5725514
Abstract: A medical device and method for eye surgery and method for illumination and fluid flow, particularly retinal surgery, combines a flow of infusing fluid and optical fiber illumination. The device uses a single strand of plastic optical fiber which extends through bores in a juncture device tube and needle cannula with sufficient clearance to permit the flow of the infusing fluid. The illuminating tip of the optical fiber is moved, during surgery, by loosening a cap of the junction device to release the optical fiber, moving the optical fiber within the junction device, and then re-tightening the cap to re-secure the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 5652676
Abstract: An adapter connects a small solid-state television camera to a viewing port of a microscope. The adapter has a lens to focus the image from the microscope, the lens being mounted in a slidable lens holder. The lens holder is slid by rotation of a manual control knob which is connected to a pinion gear in mesh with a gear rack on the lens holder. A mirror within the housing of the adapter, in its normal position, reflects the image 45 degrees and is a flat disk-shaped mirror mounted for universal movement about its center. The angle of the mirror is controlled by a finger-operated control rod which is connected to the mirror by a linkage system having a larger ball, a smaller ball mounted in a bore of the larger ball, and two pairs of rotatable mounts.

  • Patent number: 5535060
Abstract: A stereoscopic microscope system is adapted for vitrectomy eye surgery. A conformer lens positions the eye being operated upon and an aspherical lens system, adjacent the conformer lens, produces an inverted image. That image is reinverted by a prism system having two pairs of prisms, each pair being an Abbe's Modification of Porro prism system. Each prism of the prism system has the same size and shape and the prisms are cemented together to form a unitary prism cluster.

  • Patent number: 5438456
Abstract: An optical stereoscopic microscope system is adapted for eye surgery and includes a conformer lens which fits over the eyeball being operated upon. A wide-angle aspherical lens system includes two convex-concave lenses and magnifies the image from the conformer lens to produce an inverted image. A beam splitter splits the inverted image into separated left and right inverted images each of which are reinverted by a pair of prisms, each prism pair being a pair of an Abbe Modification of Porro Prisms.
