  • Publication number: 20220237084
Abstract: An information management system supports the concurrent transfer of multiple extents from a client computing device having one or more files stored in a primary storage device. The client computing device determines whether one or more of the files are extent-eligible by comparing a file size of a file with a predetermine file size threshold. Based on the comparison, the client computing device determines that the file is extent-eligible, and determines a plurality of extents for the extent-eligible file. The client computing device may then concurrently transmit one or more of the extents of the extent-eligible file to one or more nodes in communication with the client computing device. The one or more nodes may index the received extents for later retrieval during a restore operation of the extent-eligible file. The one or more nodes may also validate the extents to ensure that the extents are not corrupted.

  • Publication number: 20200364179
Abstract: Large files may be archived on secondary storage in a multitude of extents or data blocks. The system intercepts a read operation on a stub file and determines which extent(s) correspond(s) to the data being requested. The system recalls the user-requested extents and determines which extents may be recalled soon. A queue may be used to organize the order of the recall requests based on the type of priority of the request. As the extents are received and processed, they are stored into the stub file for user access before the remainder of the archived file is recalled. The routines performed may be implemented using data structures such as bitmaps and priority queues. The system may use the stored bitmap tables and queues to resume an earlier failed file recall.

  • Patent number: 9921918
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to manage a storage object in a data backup storage mechanism, which stores multiple versions of a data file received from a data source. To efficiently manage storage in the storage object, determinations may be made as to whether a number of free data blocks (i.e., data blocks available for re-use) of the storage object exceeds a threshold and whether a data block(s) of the data file corresponding to a valid data block(s) of the storage object has not been modified in at least a number of previous versions of the data file. Responsive to a result of one or both of these determinations, data in the valid data block(s) may be copied to unused data block(s) in another storage object, and the status of the valid data block(s) is updated to free data block(s) such that all blocks in the storage object are free data blocks.
