  • Patent number: 5836408
Abstract: A rotary percussion blow assisted drill has an axially extending shank (1) with at least one main helically extending groove (4) in its axially extending outside surface (2) for conveying drilled material along the shank. A cutting plate (6) with hard metal cutting edges (7) is located in a cutting head end region (10) of the shank. The cutting edge (7) of the cutting plate (6) projects axially outwardly from a cutting head end face (3) of the shank (1) and the opposite ends of the cutting plate project radially outwardly from the outside surface of the shank. At least one pin-shaped guide element (11) is embedded into the outside surface (2) in the head end region (10) of the shank.

  • Patent number: 5779403
Abstract: A percussive blow assisted rotary drill includes an axially extending shank (1) with a leading end face (3) and an axially extending outside surface (2) containing a helically extending drilled material removal groove (4, 5). At least one hard metal cutting plate (6) extends across a diameter of the shank and has a base part fixed in a continuous groove (9) in the leading end face (3) of the shank (1). The base part (10) is reinforced by an outwardly extending projection (12) in at least one of its side surfaces extending across the shank diameter. Preferably, the projections forms a part of a circle and are centered between the opposite ends of the cutting plate. The continuous groove (9) has a recess in at least one of its side surfaces shaped to coincide with the shape of the outward projection (12) on the cutting plate. Accordingly, the base part (10) is secured in a positively locked manner and preferably is centered in the leading end face of the shank.

  • Patent number: 5553682
Abstract: A rock drill includes an axially elongated shank with a chucking shank part (1) at one end, a drilling shank part (2) extending from the chucking shank part and having at least four drilled material conveying flutes (4, 5, 6, 7) disposed next to one another in a parallel manner, and a drilling head at the opposite end of the shank and formed of hard metal and having four removal flutes (8, 9, 10, 11) spaced apart about its outer circumferential surface. The removal flutes have transverse cross-section of different size and each of the transverse cross-sections of the removal flutes (8, 9, 10, 11) open into one of the conveying flutes (4, 5, 6, 7) of the drilling shank part.

  • Patent number: 5529445
Abstract: A tool bit for insertion into a tool bit chuck on a manually operated tool used for cutting and/or percussion drilling includes an axially extending chucking shank (1). The chucking shank has two axially extending rotary entrainment grooves (2, 3) open at a free end of the shank and located diametrically opposite one another. The transverse cross-sectional areas of the rotary entrainment grooves (2, 3) are different. A locking element displaceable into a locking groove (4) with axially displaced closed ends affords axial securement of the chucking shank in the chuck. To increase the torque to be transmitted, an axially extending groove (5) open at the free end of the shank is provided with its cross-section transverse of the axial direction corresponding at least to the transverse cross-section of the locking groove (4). Due to this arrangement, faulty locking of the chucking shank in the chuck of conventional commercially available manually-operated tools can be easily recognized by the tool operator.

  • Patent number: 5503237
Abstract: A rock drill is formed of an axially extending shank (2) with a drill head (1) at one end and chuck end (3) at the other end. The axially extending outside surface of the shank has at least one helically extending conveying groove (4, 5) and at least one helically extending land (6, 7). The land (6, 7) forms the radially outer surface of the shank (2). Grooves (8, 9) extending perpendicularly of the shank axis are formed in the surface of the land.

  • Patent number: 5492187
Abstract: A rock drill has an axially elongated shank (1) with a hard metal drill head (2) secured at one end. The transverse cross-section of the drill head is basically rectangular with cutters located along each of two diagonals of its cross-section. The cutters remove drillings from rock. The cutters include a main cutter (4) and two auxiliary cutters (5, 6) having the same rotational envelope curve.

  • Patent number: 5427481
Abstract: A tool bit to be inserted into a tool bit chuck of a hand tool used for chiseling, drilling and/or percussion drilling has an axially extending chucking shank (A) with two locking grooves (1) closed at the ends spaced apart in the axial direction, and two rotary entrainment grooves (2) open at a free end of the shank. In addition, two rotary entrainment faces (3) are located in the areas of the locking grooves (1).

  • Patent number: 5145237
Abstract: An axially extending cutter bit has a shank extending between a trailing end (2, 7) arranged to be inserted into a tool chuck and a leading or working end (5, 8) with the shank between the trailing end and leading end being divided into a first section proceeding from the trailing end and a second section proceeding from the first section to the leading end. The second section is stepped inwardly from the first section. As a result, the energy throughput in passing shock waves is improved and higher material removal rates by the leading or working end are achieved.
