  • Publication number: 20100044000
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a control device for automatically controlling the heat dissipation {dot over (q)} in a mold 200 for casting metal. The heat dissipation of the side plate of a mold is automatically adjusted to a preset set point {dot over (q)}set by suitable variation of the volume flow rate {dot over (V)} of a coolant 300 through the side plate. In accordance with the invention, to avoid the necessity, when different molds are used, of adapting the control of the heat dissipation each time to different thicknesses or coatings of the side plates or to different settings of the side plates during the casting operation or during the casting of different grades of steel, the actual value for the heat dissipation {dot over (q)} during a steady-state casting operation is suitably computed on a current basis from, among other things, the difference in the temperature of the coolant 300 at the coolant outlet and the coolant inlet of the side plate 200 and material constants for the coolant.

  • Publication number: 20090159232
Abstract: The invention relates to a strand guiding unit and a method for positioning at least one roll segment of a strand guiding unit against a strand, the roll segment (110) comprising an upper and a lower roll support (114, 112), each of which bears at least one roll (116, 118) for guiding the strand (200) between the rolls. When viewed in the direction of the material flow, at least one respective positioning element is allocated to the tight-hand and left-hand side of the roll segment in order to position the two roll supports (112, 114) in relation to one another. The aim of the invention is to relieve the mechanical stress on a rolling frame that is connected downstream of the strand guiding unit, to relieve said frame of some of its previous tasks and to improve the quality of the strand. To achieve this, the separate positioning elements are individually controlled in such a way that the heights (Hr, Hl) of the right-hand and left-hand edges of the strand (200) are identical.

  • Publication number: 20070023161
Abstract: A method for the continuous casting and direct deformation of a metal strand, especially a cast steel strand, includes guiding the metal strand in a curved strand glide after the continuous casting mold, subjecting the strand to a secondary cooling with a liquid coolant, and preparing the strand in an automatically controlled way for the deformation pass at a uniform temperature field in the strand cross-section, such that the cast strand is cooled with a liquid coolant only in the longitudinal sections in which the cast strand is liquid in the cross-section. The temperature of the cast strand is equalized in a transition zone before, in, and/or after a bending-straightening unit by insulation of the exterior surface that is radiating heat, without the use of the liquid coolant, and is further equalized by heat radiation in zones until the temperature field consists of elliptical, horizontally oriented isotherms.

  • Patent number: 7121323
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a continuous casting device for the direct shaping of a metal strand, in particular a steel cast strand (1) of any format (1d). According to said method, the cast strand (1) is only cooled by a liquid coolant (4) in longitudinal sections (6), where the interior of the cast strand (1) remains liquefied and the temperature of the cast strand (1) in a transition zone (7) upstream of, in and/or downstream of a bending and straightening unit (8) is evened out by an insulation of the exterior surface (1b), essentially without the use of a liquid coolant (4), and by progressive thermal radiation. The cast strand (1) is shaped in a dynamically variable reduction section (9) as a result of the compressive strength that is measured on individual shaping rolls (10) or roll segments (11), depending on the compressive force that can be locally applied.

  • Publication number: 20060151144
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and a continuous casting device for dynamically placing roller segments (13 to 17) against a cast bar (4) made of metal, particularly steel. The inventive continuous casting device comprises pairs of rollers (18) which are placed against each other in a position-controlled and pressure-controlled manner by means of piston-cylinder units (19), the hydraulic pressure being switched from position-controlled operation to pressure-controlled operation when a threshold pressure is reached. In order to extend the range of applications of the inventive method, said method is applied to roller segments (13 to 17) of continuous bloom and billet casting devices, said roller segments (13 to 17) being arranged in the cold bar zone, hot bar zone, or soft reduction zone.

  • Patent number: 7025118
Abstract: A continuously cast strand is subjected to soft reduction between the guide rollers below the mold and between the soft reduction stretch and the mold the strand is subjected to format or thickness reduction between at least one pair of position controlled guide rollers so that independently of the quality of the steel, the casting speed and the spray cooling, the position of the type of the mold cavity and hence the molten steel therein is maintained constant along the soft reduction stretch.

Actual values are returned to the control system (10?) via the field bus (11) as the result of control or as a process status. The system units (14) present on the segment (21) are supplied with segment-specific data such as rigidity coefficients, roller diameter, control parameters, feed opening basic settings and adjustment quota.
