  • Method of preparing butyl polyglycosides

    Abstract: An improved method of preparing butyl polyglycosides wherein the average number of monosaccharide units in the polyglycoside may be controlled is disclosed. The method comprises refluxing, in the presence of an acid catalyst, a mixture of butanol and a monosaccharide wherein the mol ratio of butanol to monosaccharide is equal to from about 1 to about 25 and subsequently distilling off part of the butanol to reduce the mol ratio of butanol to monosaccharide to from 0.6 to 20.
