  • Patent number: 9763881
Abstract: The present invention relates to a formulation in which glycolipids and phospholipids, isolated from rice bran gum samples, were used in conjunction with gene carrying lipids to test its efficacy in delivering genes to cancer cells selectively. This formulation did not mediate efficient delivery of genes to non-cancerous cells, thus, showing potential use of this formulation to deliver anticancer therapeutics to cancer cells without eliciting treatment related toxicity to normal cells.

  • Patent number: 8816109
Abstract: Hexadecyl cis-9-tetradecenoate commonly known as Cetyl myristoleate (CMO) is being used for the treatment of osteoarthritis and other joint inflammatory diseases, cis-9-Tetradecenoic acid (cis-9-myristoleic acid) is the main precursor for the preparation of CMO. As there are limited natural plant sources for cis-9-tetradecenoic acid, the present invention aimed at the synthesis of cis-9-tetradecenoic acid methyl ester from oleic acid methyl ester. As oleic acid is not available in pure form, this has to be isolated from oleic acid-rich oils like olive oil. cis-10-Tetradecenoic acid methyl ester, an isomer of cis-9-tetradecenoic acid was also prepared from undecenoic acid methyl ester, a derivative of castor oil. Undecenoic acid is easily available commercially in pure form.

  • Patent number: 8742150
Abstract: Castor oil was hydrolysed to castor fatty acids and self condensed to get a ricinoleic acid-based estolide of about 95 acid value. The carboxylic group of the estolide on subsequent esterification with linear or branched chain alcohols and also on acetylation of free hydroxy group yielded castor oil fatty acids based estolide esters and their acetates. All the products were evaluated for total acid number (TAN), viscosity, viscosity index, pour point, flash point, and copper strip corrosion and found to be potential lubricant basestocks.

  • Patent number: 8658813
Abstract: A new class of oleochemical based polyol esters of general formula 1 are prepared by esterification of different polyols having 5-6 carbon atoms and 2-4 hydroxyl groups with 10-undecenoic acid or/and undecanoic acid with a hydroxyl value of ?1.0 mg KOH/g. Wherein R1, R2, R3 is selected from a group consisting of CH3—, CH3CH2—, —CH2OCOR4 wherein R4 is selected from CH2?CH—(CH2)8— or CH3—(CH2)9—, individually or in combination thereof. The resulting esters were characterized for lubricant properties like viscosity, viscosity index, pour point, flash point and copper corrosion tests. The properties indicate their potential as promising lubricant base stocks for automotive lubricants, metal working oil, hydraulic oil and other industrial applications. Vegetable oils provide most of the desirable lubricant properties such as good boundary lubrication, high viscosity index, high flash point and low volatility.

  • Patent number: 8609876
Abstract: The present invention relates to modification of the chemical structure of ricinoleic acid, which is present to an extent of 85-90% in castor oil into triacyloxy alkyl ester derivatives. Accordingly, 9,10,12-trihydroxy octadecanoic acid rich fatty acid mixture was prepared from castor oil and converted to their alkyl esters followed by acylation of hydroxy groups to get 9,10,12-triacyloxy octadecanoic acid alkyl ester rich fatty acid alkyl esters mixture. The 9,10,12-triacyloxy octadecanoic acid alkyl esters were purified from the crude product and characterized by 1H NMR studies. The crude products were also evaluated for acid value (A.V.), hydroxyl value (H. V.), iodine value (I. V.), viscosity, viscosity index (V.I.), pour point, flash point and copper strip corrosion and found to be potential base stocks for hydraulic, metal working fluids and other industrial fluids.

  • Patent number: 8383847
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the enrichment of methyl ricinoleate from castor oil methyl esters by liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) in presence of refined vegetable oils using an aqueous polar solvent. The invention provides an extraction of methyl ricinoleate by a non-destructive extraction method with good yields (75 to 90%) and purity (95 to 99%). The method consists of mixing castor oil methyl esters in a refined normal vegetable oil (feed) in a suitable proportion and selective extraction of methyl ricinoleate in a non-destructive manner by liquid-liquid extraction using a polar aqueous solvent, followed by de-solventization and drying of the solute to get enriched methyl ricinoleate fraction with good yields.
