  • Publication number: 20090206296
Abstract: The present invention discloses the use of organosilanes as a semi-permanent surface treatment for fabrics, textiles, and other materials. The present invention discloses a composition for this treatment comprising an organosilane, a catalyst, water, and a solvent. The present invention further discloses methods for improving water repellency and for providing other enhanced benefits to a substrate wherein the methods include contacting the substrate with a solution of water and a silane-based composition, removing excess solution from the substrate, and drying the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20070056101
Abstract: A system for detecting conditions to prevent a bedsore includes a first sensor to detect a first condition that results in the bedsore and to output a first sensor signal from the first sensor indicative of the first condition that results in the bedsore, a controller to receive the first sensor signal and to determine if the condition may result in the bedsore and an alarm responsive to the controller to provide an alarm to indicate that the condition may result in the bedsore.

  • Publication number: 20070042479
Abstract: In a sequential enzymatic reduction of carbon dioxide to methanol in which electrons are supplied by conversion of NADH to NAD+, NADH may be regenerated from the NAD+ by conversion of lactate to pyruvate by lactate dehydrogenase enzymes.

  • Publication number: 20060292345
Abstract: A surface that is at least hydrophobic that is formed from a mixture that comprises a sol-gel that comprises an alkoxosilane precursor having a general formula of R?xSi(OR)4-x or (RO)3SiR?Si(OR)3, wherein R and R? are the same or different and comprise hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, a substituted or unsubstituted alkenyl, a substituted or unsubstituted alkynyl, a substituted or unsubstituted or multiple ring aryl group, or a combination thereof, and R? is a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene, a substituted or unsubstituted alkenylene, a substituted or unsubstituted alkynylene, a substituted or unsubstituted or multiple ring arylene group, or a combination thereof, and x is 1 or 2. Also, the surface has a topography that decreases a contact area between the surface and a water droplet thereon.

  • Patent number: 6440711
Abstract: A method for conversion of carbon dioxide to methanol comprises contacting formate dehydrogenase enzymes, formaldehyde dehydrogenase enzymes and additional dehydrogenase enzymes selected from the group consisting of alcohol dehydrogenase enzymes and methanol dehydrogenase enzymes with the carbon dioxide in the presence of a terminal electron donor to produce the methanol. The intermediate reduction reactions are assisted by retaining the enzymes in a microporous matrix.
