  • Publication number: 20060100958
Abstract: Risk in business management is analyzed based on a probabilistic network approach which quantifies the impact of operational risk on financial metrics such as Value-at-Risk (VAR) and/or Potential Losses (PL). This approach provides further capability to determine the optimal placement of one or more countermeasures within a system to minimize the impact of operational risks.

  • Publication number: 20060053039
Abstract: A methodology for business process analysis and optimization. This enables firms to analyze business processes using stochastic processing network models to estimate process key performance indicators. Based on these indicators, alternate process models can be further developed and analyzed, in order to optimize business objectives. The analysis methodology can be used for business process design (at design time) and for business process management (at run time).

  • Publication number: 20060014995
Abstract: A process for the selective ring opening of ring-containing hydrocarbons in a feed stream having at least 10% ring-containing hydrocarbons includes contacting the feed stream with a ring opening catalyst containing a metal or a mixture of metals active for the selective ring opening of the ring-containing hydrocarbons on a support material, wherein the support material is a non-crystalline, porous inorganic oxide or mixture of inorganic oxides having at least 97 volume percent interconnected mesopores based on micropores and mesopores, and wherein the ring-containing hydrocarbons have at least one C6 ring and at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of fused 5- or 6-membered rings, alkyl, cycloalkyl and aryl groups.

  • Publication number: 20050256752
Abstract: A stabilization methodology and system component in Business Activity Monitoring and Management systems. This enables firms to use Business Activity Management (BAM) systems to manage business activity by only responding to monitored data when the overall business performance can be improved. This enables firms to identify appropriate tradeoffs between potentially conflicting objectives while meeting business objectives. Information from BAM systems are analyzed based on models of the business process and different information filter criteria are assessed for their impact on business performance indicators. Based on this, a filter criterion is chosen which is executed by an information filter. The outputs from the information filter are used as the basis for deciding the inputs for business process execution.

  • Patent number: 6493326
Abstract: A method and apparatus for saving power during punctured transmission in a CDMA mobile communication system. The apparatus comprises a baseband device, a mixed signal portion, a radio frequency (RF) frontend and a power supply. The baseband device comprises a variable rate voice coder (vocoder) which reduces the rate of voice data transmission to the mixed signal portion when voice activity by a user is low during a two-way conversation. When the rate of voice data transmission is reduced, there are one or more periods in which no voice data is transmitted. The system provides a signal from the baseband device to power OFF certain portions of the mixed signal portion during the periods of transmission with no voice data. This reduces the amount of power consumed by the mixed signal portion and enhances the life of the power supply.
