  • Patent number: 4784533
Abstract: Solids drained from a fluidized bed 10 pass to a conical transition section 36 and through valve 50 to a pneumatic transport line 46. The flow of solids is controlled by controllably 56 introducing air 58 into the transition section 36.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 14, 1986
Date of Patent: November 15, 1988
    Assignee: Combustion Engineering, Inc.
    Inventor: Bard C. Teigen
  • Patent number: 4623309
Abstract: A fluidized bed reactor (10) wherein a sulfur-containing particulate fuel is combusted or gasified in a fluidized bed (30) of particulate material, which includes a sulfur oxide absorbent, is provided with a solids cooling apparatus (40) adapted to receive particulate material draining from the bed and cool same via indirect heat transfer to a cooling fluid.

  • Patent number: 4593630
Abstract: A fluidizing feed apparatus (20) for supplying particulate material to a fluidized bed furnace (12) having a housing (22) which defines a chamber which is divided by a perforated distribution plate (24) into a gas plenum (26) beneath the plate and a particulate fluidizing plenum (28) above the plate. Conveying gas is fed under pressure to the gas plenum to pass upwardly therefrom through the perforated distribution plate. The upwardly directed conveying gas fluidizes the particulate material so as to establish a discrete bed (60) of fluidized particulate material superadjacent the distribution plate (24) and a splash zone (70) thereabove. Transport conduits (14) open into the splash zone (70) at a selected distance above the surface (65) of the discrete bed (60) to receive particulate material and conveying gas therefrom for transport to the fluidized bed (16) of the furnace (12).

  • Patent number: 4577593
Abstract: In a forced steam generator (10) having orifice assemblies (36) positioned in the inlet of each tube (28) lining the walls of the furnace (12). The orifice assemblies are explosively (46) expanded into each tube. In order to permit the tubes to be completely drainable even when located in a portion of a tube having a horizontal component thereto, the orifice (60) is located at the very bottom of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4182277
Abstract: A bubble rake for removing the remaining steam from liquid water that is returning to heat-exchange surfaces after an initial separation from steam. The bubble rake is a channel-forming member having a cross section generally in the shape of an upside-down U. The bubble rake is disposed in a fluid-flow path so that the channel opens down and in the direction of the path. A stall zone formed by a rake traps steam in the channel, and the channel is positioned longitudinally at an angle with the horizontal so that the trapped steam migrates to its high end, where an opening allows the trapped steam to join the steam previously separated from the water.
