  • Patent number: 5441231
Abstract: There is provided a valve for use in regulating flow of fluid through a conduit having a deformably resilient valve sleeve, in which the valve includes a housing, and at least first and second opposing jaw members disposed transversely to the conduit for deforming the valve sleeve with the conduit sandwiched between the first and second opposing jaw members. The jaw members are movable between an open position, with the first and second jaw members spaced apart a distance sufficient to permit flow of liquid through the conduit, and a closed position, with the jaw members pinched together sufficiently to restrict or shut off the flow of fluid through the conduit. Inflatable diaphragms are provided to control movement of the jaw members between the open position, when the diaphragms are in a deflated configuration, and the closed position, when the diaphragms are in an inflated configuration.

  • Patent number: 4781356
Abstract: The invention is concerned with valves generally and more particularly with valves with the type known as pinch valves being those valves which are closed or opened by the action of pinching or releasing a resiliently deformable sleeve. The invention is characterized principally in having a light weight open-sided box section valve housing combined with a pair of substantially cylindrical sleeve supports which allow the use of a resilient sleeve which incorporates no internal bracing.

  • Patent number: 4358250
Abstract: A prime mover is provided particularly a wind energized prime mover (10) comprising a compressor (20) driven by a wind wheel (22) and arranged simultaneously to charge with compressed air, a first, small capacity reservoir (24) and a second, large capacity reservoir (26), the first reservoir (24) being connected to a compressed air demand and being rapidly charged and depleted in light winds when the compressor (20) is delivering just sufficient air to satisfy the demand and the second reservoir (26) being charged when the compressor (20) is delivering more air than is required, the requirement of the demand being determined by a pressure reducing valve 28 and the nature of the work done, the second reservoir (26) being connected to the demand line (35) across a pressure reducing valve (32) whereby the compressed air therein will be released to the demand when the pressure in the demand line (35) drops below a predetermined minimum.

  • Patent number: 4309150
Abstract: A peristaltic motor is provided comprising a reciprocating slave piston adapted to be actuated by the progressive, sequential contraction of two aligned, resiliently deformable peristaltic tubes by a weighted roller such as a wheel of a heavy vehicle. The leading ends of both tubes, that is the ends first contacted by the moving roller, are connected to the slave cylinder, one on either side of the piston and the trailing ends of the tubes are connected to one another so that movement of the roller from the leading end to the trailing end of the first tube causes the hydraulic fluid therein to move down the tube and into the slave cylinder moving the piston through half a stroke. Movement of the roller in the same direction over the second tube, forces the hydraulic fluid into the other side of the slave cylinder to move the piston through the second half of the stroke. The piston is associated with means to utilize its movement such as an air compressor or a pump.

  • Patent number: 4280680
Abstract: A valve including a fluid port; a valve seat round the port; and closure means movable towards and away from the seat, the closure means including a sealing surface engageable with the seat and a protrusion which extends from the sealing surface towards the seat, the protrusion being operative to create an accelerated flow of fluid between the seat and the sealing surface prior to the latter engaging the seat upon movement of the closure means towards the seat and the protrusion further being adapted for at least part thereof to be urged into sealing engagement with the surround of the port by pressure in the valve when the sealing surface engages the seat.
