  • Patent number: 6780885
Abstract: The present invention provides non-aqueous compositions which comprise a pharmacologically or biologically active compound, an emulsifier, a polyol, and benzyl alcohol. The compositions are useful for administering the pharmacologically or biologically active compounds which they contain to animals, plants, or ground surfaces. In preferred embodiments, the pharmacologically or biologically active compounds may be water-insoluble or water-labile. The compositions of the present invention allow these compounds to be solubilized and conveniently transported to a site of application in a non-aqueous form, and then diluted in an aqueous solution. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the compound is ivermectin and is administered in the drinking water of poultry. The compositions of the present invention may also contain multiple pharmacologically or biologically active compounds which are administered simultaneously. The present invention also provides methods of administering the compounds.

  • Patent number: 6399596
Abstract: A pesticide composition is provided which is made from a pesticide compound, such as those from the avermectin family, and an organosilicone surfactant, such as polysiloxane, as the solvent for the pesticide. The use of the organosilicone surfactant as a solvent in conjunction with the avermectin pesticide in accordance with the present invention is advantageous in that it allows for control of pests such as nematodes and mites in substantially greater amounts for a longer period of time than has been accomplishing using prior art formulations including those which use similar concentrations of the active ingredient or those which use the pesticide in combination with an agricultural spray oil. In addition, a method is provided wherein pests can be reduced or eliminated from crops by application of an effective amount of the avermectin and organosilicone surfactant pesticide formulation of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 5843203
Abstract: An improved agricultural carrier and a method of making the carrier is disclosed. The granular carrier is adapted for carrying a low-melting chemical, specifically pesticides. An aromatic solvent is used to dissolve the low-melting chemical, before combining it with the carrier. The granular carrier unexpectedly exceeds its liquid holding capacity for the low-melting chemical.

  • Patent number: 5698003
Abstract: Improved solvent systems for the formulation of N-alkyl thiophosphoric triamide urease inhibitors. These formulations enable the preparation of stable concentrated solutions of N-alkyl thiophosphoric triamides for storage, transportation, and eventual impregnation onto solid urea containing fertilizers and incorporation into liquid urea containing fertilizer compositions. These formulations are comprised primarily of a solvent selected from the group consisting of glycols and glycol derivatives. Optionally, in addition to the glycol base solvent, the formulations can contain a co-solvent selected from the group consisting of liquid amides, 2-pyrrolidone and N-alkyl 2-pyrrolidones, and/or a nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of alkylaryl polyether alcohols. The presence of the co-solvent and/or surfactant has been found to impart desirable properties to the formulations under certain conditions.

  • Patent number: 5504014
Abstract: The cleanliness of water-rinsed surfaces originally carrying hazardous compositions is determined by using a surface active agent as a marker in said material prior to placing the composition into contact with the surface.

  • Patent number: 5169433
Abstract: Environmentally-acceptable intimate mixtures of active ingredients and excipients which meet economic performance levels are prepared without use of harmful solvents by solubilizing and mixing the components in liquid carbon dioxide maintained under pressure and then slowly reducing the pressure to convert the carbon dioxide to the gaseous phase and venting the gaseous carbon dioxide.

  • Patent number: 4183763
Abstract: Calcium sulfate hemihydrate is processed into agglomerates such as granules and/or macrogranules by addition of an aqueous binder to a fluidized charge of calcium sulfate hemihydrate particles. The hemihydrate particles are agglomerated to a predetermined size range and hydrated to calcium sulfate dihydrate. The produced agglomerates have a bulk density of less than about 55 pounds per cubic foot, a surface hardness providing less than about 40 percent attrition, and a liquid holding capacity of at least about 10 percent.
