The system includes a processor that receives an application request to update a file on a server storage device, and generates, based on the request, a command to update the file on a server storage device. The system also includes a communications module that provides, to the server storage device, the command to update the file on the server storage device. The request is formatted for a file storage protocol of a client storage device, and the command is formatted for a file storage protocol of the server storage device. The command to update the file on the server storage device is not specific to the application generating the application request. Methods and computer-readable mediums are also provided.

Abstract: A system and method for implementing file searches. In an illustrative embodiment, the method includes accepting signals from a user-input device to define a search query. The search query is then used to identify a plurality of files, which comprise search results. The search results are then ordered according to file-usage criteria. In a more specific embodiment, files that have been accessed by others rank higher in the search results than files that have never been accessed. One or more access logs may be employed to facilitate adjusting future search results and file-access behaviors based on past file-access information. In this specific embodiment, the method employs information pertaining to who accessed a given file, what they did when they accessed the file, the time at which they accessed the file, and/or the duration of the file access to automatically obtain and/or rank search results.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for supplying data to users through “query objects”, where the data corresponds to attributes of domain objects and is stored in a relational database. The query objects create a bridge between the information the user wants to see (as expressed in the user interface presented to the user), the object model in which domain logic is implemented, and the relational model in which the data is stored. Thus, data used to populate the user interface is queried directly from the data model and returned in the shape required by the user interface. As the query results are read into memory, objects that model the data using object-oriented techniques are instantiated. Subsequent manipulation of the data is redirected to those objects, thereby preserving data encapsulation and allowing reuse of existing logic.
