  • Patent number: 4813533
Abstract: A flat belting includes a plurality of individual layers of fabric that extend throughout the length and width of the belting. The layers are joined together by reinforcing elements which extend substantially in the direction of the thickness of the belting. The individual layers and reinforcing elements are encapsulated in a matrix of polymeric elastomeric resin, for example, polyvinylchloride. The individual layers are saturated with a liquid elastomer-forming polymeric resin prior to their being joined together. The reinforcing elements may be inserted, for example, by tufting, sewing, or stitch-bonding. One or more of the individual fabric layers may be a woven or other cloth having a plurality of substantially parallel yarns which extend in the lengthwise direction of the belting. One or more of the individual fabric layers may be a non-woven fabric.

  • Patent number: 4668540
Abstract: Belting consisting of a compacted non-woven felt fabric embedded in a matrix of elastomer. The belting may be made by saturating a greige non-woven fabric with a liquid, elastomer-forming, polymeric resin and thereafter compacting the saturated fabric to permanently reduce the thickness thereof. Following compaction of the saturated fabric, the liquid resin is solidified and cured. Curing is preferably accomplished at a temperature above ambient and at a pressure above atmospheric. The non-woven felt may be a spun-bonded, needle-punched, or stitch-bonded bat of fibers.

  • Patent number: 4489760
Abstract: Wide woven fabric having dipped and treated cords is made by first connecting warp cords of relatively strong material in at least two narrow sheets. The narrow sheets are dipped and treated after which they are positioned in loom letoff rolls adjacent a loom where they are joined to form a wide fabric having a width greater than the width of either of the narrow sheets. The warp cords from the narrow sheets are guided from the letoff rolls into the loom and during the process the narrow sheets may be run through a cord separating apparatus to separate the warp cords. The warp cords may be woven in the loom with a dipped and treated weft cord to provide a wide reinforcing sheet with a heavy woven construction having a width greater than the width of any one of the narrow sheets.

  • Patent number: 4226273
Abstract: A nonpneumatic tire with generally cylindrical inner and outer members connected by radial wall members mounted on a split rim with tire-retaining flanges and a generally cylindrical tire-supporting surface. The diameter of at least some portions of the rim tire-supporting surface is greater than the diameter of adjacent portions of the inner member of the tire for nonrotatable engagement of the tire by the rim in the mounted condition. The tire may include a layer of compressible material spaced radially inward from a reinforcing ply embedded in the inner member. The tire and rim may also have transversely extending, circumferentially spaced-apart ribs and grooves in meshing engagement to prevent rotation of the tire relative to the rim.
