Abstract: A hypermedia document display method can include presenting hypermedia content, the hypermedia content containing hyperlinks to additional hypermedia content; storing selected ones of the hyperlinks in a delayed viewing list; and, caching hypermedia content associated with the stored hyperlinks during the presenting step. The method can further include reconfiguring the stored hyperlinks to point to the cached hypermedia content. The presenting step can include displaying Web content in a Web browser. In that case, the Web content can contain hyperlinks to additional Web content. The presenting step also can include playing back multimedia content in a multimedia content player. Finally, the presenting step can include displaying audiovisual television content combined with hypermedia content in a television set.

Or, the mixing may occur within a telephone conversation between parties. The disclosed techniques enable alleviating some of the problems that result from distance communication (as contrasted to face-to-face communication). In particular, context information (such as emotional context) can be provided through appropriate use of background sound and/or embedded audio files. The disclosed techniques may also make communication through voice mail exchange more enjoyable and/or increase its productivity.

Abstract: An account is associated with a token that is adapted to be distributed to at least one transaction entity. An event message is received from the transaction entity that comprises the token and optional additional information corresponding to an event of interest to a user. The event message is associated with the account based upon the token received with the event message and at least one indicator of the event of interest to the user is aggregated with any other existing indicators in the account. The indicators in the account are made available to the user for inspection.

Abstract: A transaction entity handles event messages associated with events of interest. At least one type of event is identified that is of interest to a user. Each type of event further corresponds to an event type that is to be repeated by a transaction entity to an aggregating entity. Further, a description is associated with each identified type of event. The transaction entity identifies an occurrence of an event that is an identified type of event and generates an event message comprising a token that associates the user with an account maintained by the aggregating and the description that is associated with the identified type of event corresponding to the identified occurrence of the event. The event message is transmitted to the aggregating entity.

Abstract: A user inspects at least one indicator of an event. The user enables a token corresponding to an account of an aggregating entity to be received by a transaction entity and identifies at least one type of event of interest to be reported by the transaction entity to the aggregating entity. The user obtains and inspects at least one indicator from the account of the aggregating entity, where each obtained indicator is adapted to be created by the aggregating entity based upon an event message received from the transaction entity. The event message comprises the token, which is adapted to be used by the aggregating entity to identify the account and the event message corresponds to an occurrence of an event of at least one type of event of interest to be reported by the transaction entity to the aggregating entity.

Abstract: An event message is created that is associated with an event of interest to a user. A transaction entity obtains a token that corresponds to an account of an aggregating entity. Additionally, at least one type of event is identified. Each identified type of event comprises an event type that is of interest to a user and is intended by the user to be reported to the aggregating entity. The transaction entity identifies an occurrence of an event that corresponds to a previously identified type of event and creates an event message that includes the token. The transaction entity then transmits the event message to the aggregating entity. The transmitted event message is adapted to correspond to at least one indicator of the occurrence of the event that is provided by the aggregating entity for review by the user.

One or more negotiators negotiate with the network node device in order to establish a connection to one or more wirelines connected to the network node and a requesting process requests bridging to a call in progress.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for monitoring one or more humans while maintaining the privacy of those individuals. The system includes one or more activity pickups that create one or more respective information outputs. A computer system monitors one or more of the information outputs and processes the information outputs to determine when one or more types of inactivity of the human in an area exceeds one or more thresholds of inactivity. Alarms and/or indications activate when one or more of the thresholds of inactivity is exceeded. Various types of thresholds of inactivity are disclosed.

Abstract: A system and method of providing information (such as directions) to a driver of a vehicle while driving the vehicle without requiring that the driver remove his eyes from looking out the windshield at the road ahead. A positioning device is associated with the vehicle and determines the present location of the vehicle which is compared to a desired location (e.g., the location of a desired turn at an intersection) necessary to reach a preset destination which has been stored. When the vehicle is in a predetermined location (e.g., 500 feet or 10 second before the intersection), an advisory message to the driver is projected onto the windshield using a heads-up display projector so that the driver can prepare for and make the necessary movement (e.g., turning the correct way at the desired intersection).

Abstract: A method for providing configurable access to media in a media-on-demand system also can include delivering the media to a first client device in a format compatible with the first client device; interrupting the delivery of the media; recording a bookmark specifying a position in the media where the interruption occurred; and resuming delivery of the media to a second client device, the resumed delivery beginning at a position in the media specified by the recorded bookmark. The method further can include identifying device properties for each of the first and second client devices; delivering the media to the first client device in a format compatible with the identified device properties for the first client device; and, delivering the media to the second client device in a format compatible with the identified device properties for the second client device.

Abstract: A method for secure entry of a user-identifier in a publicly positioned device can include establishing a private communications link between a user and the publicly positioned device; dividing the user-identifier into at least two portions; separately prompting the user for each portion of the user-identifier; prompting the user for a combination of random data and the user-identifier; and, discarding the random data from the combination. In the preferred embodiments, the publicly positioned device can have a visual interface through which the user can be visually prompted for the random data and the user-identifier. Alternatively, the publicly positioned device can have a telephone interface through which the user can be audibly prompted for the random data and the user-identifier. In the case of a visual display, the private communications link can be established by linking the publicly positioned device to active glasses having a shuttered display.

Abstract: A service Provider tests and validates the ability of a customer to carry out its part of the service process, to specify parameters of the process and/or to use the output of the process supplied to it by supplying to the Consumer a set of first validation data that is processed by the Consumer to produce a second set of validation data that is compared with a set of criteria and a process specification to determine if the Consumer has successfully processed the first set of validation data.

Abstract: Disclosed apparatus and method enable a host computer or server in a non-synchronous data communication network--e.g. a network in which data is subject to routing over transmission paths of indefinite configurations and lengths, and receptive handling of indefinite duration--to gather time statistics from client computers or terminals receiving the data; particularly statistics useful for determining: (a) transit times of data from server to clients; (b) times elapsed at client stations, between reception of data and one or more events pre-specified in information accompanying the data; and (c) transit times of return messages sent from respective client stations to the server. Control information attached to transmitted data includes a "timing script" written in a scripted language subject to interpretation by software at the client station receiving the data.
