  • Patent number: 9097492
Abstract: A blast mitigation method includes forming a body of solid material which transitions from a solid state to a non-flowing viscous fluid state when stressed which attaching it to the body of the undercarriage of a vehicle. The material of the body transitions from a solid state to a viscous fluid, state when an explosion occurs, is proximate the body and it absorbs at least some energy from the explosion mitigating impact on the vehicle. A plunger plate with blades extending outwardly therefrom is coupled to the body and oriented such that the blades are adjacent the body.

  • Patent number: 8998148
Abstract: A locomotive warning system includes an acoustical warning subsystem configured to emit variably directed sound. A controller subsystem is responsive to an initiation command and is configured to trigger the acoustical warning subsystem to begin a sounding sequence when the initiation command is received at a first directivity angle and to continue the sound blast sequence at increasing directivity angles for a pre-establish time and/or distance traveled.

  • Publication number: 20140326553
Abstract: A shock energy absorber includes, in one example, a cylinder having a closed end and an open end, a sleeve fixed about the open end of the cylinder, and a damping material in the form of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene material in the cylinder. A plunger is positioned to be driven into the damping material via the sleeve. When the plunger is impacted and driven into the damping material, the damping material changes from a solid to a viscous fluid state thereby enabling absorption of a significant amount of energy.

  • Publication number: 20120312497
Abstract: An on-board vapor reclamation system and method includes an air inlet into an on-board diesel fuel tank and a fuel vapor/air mixture outlet from the fuel tank. A pump or a suction fan is operable to drive air from the air inlet through the tank and a fuel vapor/air mixture out the fuel vapor/air mixture outlet at a flow rate which maintains a fuel vapor concentration in the tank to less than a predetermined value corresponding to the lower explosive limit to reduce fire and explosive hazards and to reduce harmful emissions. A condenser subsystem is fluidly connected to the fuel vapor/air mixture tank outlet and is configured to condense fuel vapor in the fuel vapor/air mixture delivered to the condenser subsystem at the required flow rate. Condensed fuel vapor from the condenser subsystem is returned to the fuel tank to save fuel and increase mileage.
