Publication number: 20180259190Abstract: A cooktop, having at least one burner and at least one control. Each burner may be associated with a particular control. A burner sensor detects the presence of a pot on the burner. When a pot is detected, an illuminated path is activated between the burner and its associated control. A control sensor detects a user's proximity to the control. When a user is detected, the illuminated path is also activated. Alternatively, a lighting effect is used to highlight the associated burner and control. Alternatively, each burner is associated with a burner selector button or burner user selection interface, and a controller is used to adjust the parameters of a burner selected using the burner selector button. A communication link may be provided between the cooktop and a hood, and a display provided on the hood to indicate burner status, as well as other settings such as timer progress.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2018Publication date: September 13, 2018Applicant: WHIRLPOOL CORPORATIONInventors: Luciano L. Patent number: 9897372Abstract: An integrated lighting system for a kitchen appliance includes a refrigerated appliance having an appliance door that includes an inner door liner, an outer door wrapper and an insulation layer disposed within a cavity defined between the inner door liner and the outer door wrapper. The inner door liner defines a bin receptacle. A bin is selectively received by the bin receptacle. The bin receptacle includes a bin divider defined by the inner door liner and extends away from the outer door wrapper. The bin divider cooperates with the bin to define sub compartments of the bin. A lighting assembly is coupled to the bin divider, wherein the lighting assembly is configured to illuminate the bin and at least a portion of the interior compartment.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2015Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: Whirlpool CorporationInventors: David E. Daniel, Basavraj Ishwar Sankhgond

Patent number: 9784454Abstract: A burner of a gas cooking appliance is mounted through a turn and lock mechanism established between a support member mounted below a cooktop of the appliance and a holder attached to the burner. More specifically, the holder and support member include interengaging structure, allowing the holder to be initially attached to and then twist secured upon the support member. In addition, locating structure is provided to assure the holder is appropriately positioned for proper alignment of the turn and lock mechanism. Furthermore, upon twisting the holder relative to the support member, locking structure retains the holder in a desired, operational position.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: October 10, 2017Assignee: Whirlpool CorporationInventors: Sachin Kadus, Pradeep Kulkarni, Basavraj Ishwar Sankhgond, Arthur P.
