Abstract: The present invention provides a local area network system including a computational device or a host, a network apparatus and communication channel (e.g. router). The invention also provides a method for configuring IPv6 addresses in the host. The method includes separating a prefix assignment from generation of an interface identifier. The prefix may be stored in a DHCPv6 server. The procedure further includes requesting the prefix from the DHCPv6 server by the host, generating the interface identifier in the host, and combining the prefix and the generated interface identifier to formulate an IP address in the host, registering the IP address in the DHCPv6 server, and granting the usage of the IP address to the host by the DHCPv6 server.

Abstract: A method for handover in a network is provided. The method includes receiving a first message from a first access network device associated with a mobile node (MN) associated with a first access router. A second message is sent to a second access router associated with a second access network device to initiate handover. A third message in response to the second message is received to establish a tunnel between the first access router and the second access router for handover. Packets designated to the MN are forwarded from the first access router to the second access router through the tunnel.

Abstract: A system is provided that includes at least one processor and instructions that when executed by the processor promote exchanging extensible authentication protocol (EAP) messages for authentication by sending a plurality of data packets formatted in accordance with an IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The EAP messages are encapsulated within a data field of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard data packet and wherein the encapsulated EAP message comprises an EAP header and a data portion.

Abstract: An apparatus comprising a mobile access gateway (MAG) configured to register an Internet Protocol (IP) address for a mobile node (MN) with a local mobility anchor (LMA) to allow proxy mobile IP version 6 (PMIPv6) mobility management for the MN, wherein the MAG communicates a query message that comprises a PMIPv6 service name to a Domain Name Service (DNS) and obtains the IP address of the LMA from the DNS. Also disclosed is a network component comprising at least one processor coupled to a memory and configured to send a DNS query for a plurality of Service Resource Records (SRV RRs), and receive a DNS reply that comprises a plurality of Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs) for a plurality of LMAs, wherein the DNS query comprises a Proxy Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (PMIPv6) service name, a protocol name, and a domain name.

Abstract: An apparatus comprising a home agent (HA) configured to initiate a flow binding operation for a mobile node (MN) by sending a first message to the MN and receiving a second message from the MN, wherein the first message indicates the flow binding operation to the MN, and wherein the MN returns the second message to the HA in response to the first message. Also disclosed is a network component comprising at least one processor configured to implement a method comprising receiving a first message from a HA to initiate a flow binding operation for a flow, and sending a second message to the HA. Included is a method comprising transmitting to a MN a flow binding message to perform a flow binding action for the MN.

Abstract: An apparatus comprising a mobile access gateway (MAG) configured to receive a tunneled multicast packet from a local mobility anchor (LMA), decapsulate the tunneled multicast packet, and forward the multicast packet to a mobile node (MN). A network component comprising at least one processor configured to implement a method comprising receiving a request message tunneled by a MAG for a MN, wherein the request message indicates that the MN wants to join a multicast group, decapsulating the tunneled message, connecting to a router for the multicast group, receiving a multicast packet from the router, and sending a tunneled multicast packet to the MN via the MAG, wherein the tunneled multicast packet has at least three Internet Protocol (IP) layer or layer 3 headers.

Abstract: An embodiment method for managing power of user device having a plurality of interfaces includes mapping centralized reachability states to physical power states of the interface and controlling the physical power states based on the mapping. Controlling includes transmitting a signal to the user device.

A method for redirecting a device from a first home agent to a second home agent includes sending a first message to the first home agent, receiving a second message from the first home agent, and sending a third message to the second home agent. The first message includes a binding update, and the second message includes a binding acknowledgement and a redirect indication that the device is being redirected to the second home agent. The third message includes a binding update, and an address of the first home agent.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for home agent address acquisition for IPv4 mobile nodes is provided. A method for device operation includes sending a request message to an authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) server, and receiving a reply message from the AAA server. The reply message contains an assigned Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) address of a home agent and the home agent is deployed with a dual stack mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) function.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for paging a mobile station operable in a WLAN. Logical layer-2 paging is provided pursuant to a tracking agent protocol. A tracking agent is provided that tracks the location at a logical layer-2 logical level. A paging cache is maintained that identifies logical layer-2 paging areas in which the mobile station is most recently associated. When a communication session is initiated, a page is broadcast throughout the layer-2 logical layer paging area in which the mobile station is indicated to be positioned.

Abstract: A mobility access gateway (MAG) comprising at least one processor configured to implement a method comprising establishing a multi-protocol label switched (MPLS) tunnel with a local mobility agent (LMA), and establishing communications with a plurality of mobile nodes (MNs) associated with a plurality of service providers, wherein a plurality of packets destined for the LMA comprise a label that distinguishes between the service providers.
