  • Patent number: 5807844
Abstract: A method for production of toxin-binding, non-toxic, modified, biopolymers and the use thereof for the treatment of septic shock, infections and toxic states and to the use of them as carriers for transportation of biologically or therapeutically important materials (enzymes or drugs) into phagocytes or cells bearing Fc and complement receptors and as a natural source of energy for cells. The toxin binding, non-toxic structurally modified biopolymers are prepared by the reaction of polysaccharides containing alpha 1,4 or 1,6 linkages with glucose-1-phosphate catalyzed by glycogen phosphorylase enzyme in a buffer solution at pH 6.8-7.4 at a temperature of 20.degree.-30.degree. C. and by the separation of the obtained biopolymers in a well-known manner.

  • Patent number: 4908507
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the integral optical examination of damaging mechanical stresses arising in the bottom-part of bottles and hollow glasswares. In accordance with the process the bottom-part of the glasses/bottles/is illuminated with a light bundle from the mouth, the cross-sectional intensity distribution is controlled by the aid of a light bundle with predetermined angle of aperture, with the integral optical system the bottom is illuminated with a light with quasi-homogeneous intensity. The passing light is modulated and led into the photodetector, the signal of which is analysed through a band-filter. The invention includes the apparatus for the implement of the process according to the invention. The apparatus has a laser (1), a laser bundle (2) emitted therefrom, a polar filter (3), connected with a light-chopper (4), a bundle stretcher consisting of the collecting lenses (5,6), the diaphragm (8), a polar filter (14) and the photodetector (15).

  • Patent number: 4875809
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new process for stabilizing the clay minerals in reservoir rocks containing oil, in particular in rock comprising sandstones, sand, or marliceous sandstones as well as eliminating the electrostatic dispersion and swelling of the clays when steam injection is used for mineral oil exploitation. According to the process, cations capable of stabilizing the reservoir rock, having a hydrated diameter of 0.13 to 0.15 nm, preferably potassium and/or ammonium and/or zirconium ions are introduced in the form of a 0.01 to 5.0 N aqueous solution or in the form of a vapor mixture or a mixture of steam and gas(es).

C., preferably at 80.degree.-100.degree. C.;adding to the slurry 3-4 moles, preferably 3.2-3.4 moles, of soda related to 1 mole of the originally dissolved Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, and continuing the stirring for 1-4 hours at 80.degree.-100.degree. C., preferably at a temperature of 90.degree.-95.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4226838
Abstract: An improved process for accelerating the digestion process in the Bayer alumina process is provided which promotes both the goethite-hematite conversion and a more perfect and quick dissolution of the diaspore. The above is achieved by carrying out the digestion in the process of 5-20% by weight calculated on the dry weight of the bauxite of a novel hydrogarnet catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4116824
Abstract: An automated wet sieving apparatus and process are provided comprising a wetting liquid distributor which is coupled by eccentric disks to a motor which drives the distributor in an orbital path for supplying the liquid onto a sieve. Means are provided for creating alternating vacuum and pressure below the sieve. The vacuum draws undersized particles whose size is being determined through the sieve and the pressure loosens blinding particles from the sieve. Preferably, the sieve is cyclically tilted as the wetting liquid is being distributed onto the sieve.

  • Patent number: 4012298
Abstract: A method of electrolytically recovering gallium and/or alkali metals from alkali metal solutions, preferably aluminate (sodium aluminate) liquors from aluminate production in which the gallium or alkali metal is electrolytically deposited on a mercury layer of the thickness of several microns applied to a metallic support which is more electronegative than mercury (preferably copper) by amalgamation or cementation from a mercury salt solution. The deposition of metals is carried out at a temperature below 50.degree. C and the cathode is then treated with a solvent, e.g. mercury or water, to remove the deposited elements.
