  • Patent number: 4486633
Abstract: A gas-insulated circuit breaker is described which includes a Y-shaped hollow grounded metal tank formed from three appropriately shaped pipes joined together. A hollow insulating bushing is secured to each upstanding leg. A stationary and a movable contact, separable from each other to establish an arc therebetween, are disposed in one of the upstanding legs, with an insulating gas disposed within both the tank and the insulating bushings. A mechanism is used for directing a blast of insulating gas into the arc established between the separating contact, and includes a piston fixedly disposed in the one leg and a puffer cylinder secured to the movable contact and movable over the piston to compress the gas therebetween. An operating mechanism is associated with the base leg for moving the movable contact, and a drive rod insulatably connects the movable contact and the operating mechanism. The operating mechanism thus moves the movable contact through the insulating drive rod.

  • Patent number: 4443674
Abstract: A power circuit interrupter having novel mechanical timing means for precision control of the insertion and removal of a resistance or other impedance means in parallel with the interrupter contacts at predetermined time intervals. The mechanical timing means has rigid mechanical operating elements for precise, accurate and repeatable operating characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4440996
Abstract: A gas-insulated circuit breaker is described which includes a Y-shaped, hollow grounded metal base member formed from a support section and two angularly-extending legs. A hollow insulating casing is secured to each base member leg. A stationary and a movable contact, separable from each other to establish an arc therebetween, are disposed in one of the casings, with an insulating gas disposed within both the base member and the insulating casings. A mechanism is used for directing a blast of insulating gas into the arc established between the separating contact, and includes a piston fixedly disposed in the one casing and a puffer cylinder secured to the movable contact and movable over the piston to compress the gas therebetween. An operating mechanism is associated with the base member support section for moving the movable contact, and a drive rod insulatably connects the movable contact and the operating mechanism. The operating mechanism thus moves the movable contact through the insulating drive rod.

  • Patent number: 4379957
Abstract: A modular "Y"-type enclosure element particularly adapted for gas insulated substations. The enclosure element comprises a first generally "Y"-shaped enclosure element having a circuit protective device, such as a circuit breaker or conductor, disposed therein for controlling the flow of current through the enclosure element. A flanged opening is attached to each leg of the enclosure element for electrical and mechanical attachment to another enclosure element. A second generally "Y"-shaped enclosure having a circuit control device, such as a ground switch, disposed within the enclosure element also for controlling the flow of current through said enclosure element. A flanged opening is again attached to each leg of said second enclosure element for electrical and mechanical attachment to first said enclosure element.

  • Patent number: 4223191
Abstract: An improved mounting support construction characterized by an arc-extinguishing puffer-unit at the upper end of each of the slanted arms, or generally-"V"-shaped supporting structure, with an additional third puffer-unit interposed, interconnecting, generally-horizontally-arranged, gas-sealed bridging center casing structure. Thus, a generally-inverted "A"-type of mounting support arrangement is provided in which the three series puffer-units are disposed at the lower ends and in the horizontal bridging leg of the inverted "A"-shaped structure. A typical voltage rating would be 420 K.V., for example.

  • Patent number: 4205208
Abstract: An improved double-flow-type of compressed-gas operating mechanism is provided for actuating a high-voltage circuit-breaker including a double driving head, movable, actuating piston, having different opposite working areas to thereby accommodate the higher power required to effect the opening operation (which may be as much as ten times the power needed for the closing operation) and the provision of suitable means for resiliently retaining the driving piston in either of its open or closed-circuit end positions.
