  • Patent number: 5269996
Abstract: A method for producing ultra fine denier cellulose acetate fibers that entails spinning a spinning solution containing adequately high amounts of cellulose acetate in acetone wherein the cellulose acetate has a falling ball viscosity of 15 to 70 seconds wherein the spinning is conducted through spinnerettes having holes that have a diameter of less than 36 microns followed by drying at a temperature of about 50.degree. to 80.degree. C. at a draw ratio of 0.9 to 1.7.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 14, 1992
Date of Patent: December 14, 1993
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: Benedict M. Lee, Charles S. Winebarger
  • Patent number: 5150723
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel tobacco smoke filter material comprising a filter element such as cellulose acetate crimped tow having at least about 1 weight percent of micro acicular crystals of a compound such as sodium carbonate present on the surfaces of the filter element. Also disclosed is a process for preparation of such tobacco smoke filter material comprising immersing the filter element in a solution of the compound capable of forming the micro acicular crystals, followed by removing the filter element from the solution and removing residual liquid, thereby forming the novel tobacco smoke filter material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 8, 1990
Date of Patent: September 29, 1992
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: Benedict M. Lee, James E. Harris
  • Patent number: 5150721
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel process of preparing tobacco smoke filter material, wherein an acidic compound such as citric acid is dissolved in a cellulose acetate spinning solution prior to spinning the filaments of the filter material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 10, 1990
Date of Patent: September 29, 1992
Inventors: Benedict M. Lee, James E. Harris
  • Patent number: 5141006
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel process of preparing tobacco smoke filter material, wherein an acidic compound such as citric acid is dissolved in a cellulose acetate spinning solution (dope) prior to spinning the filaments of the filter material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 28, 1990
Date of Patent: August 25, 1992
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company

  • Patent number: 4327855
Abstract: Device for connection to the outlet end of a gas jet tow puddler for puddling filamentary tow into a container, the device having a downwardly sloped gas-impervious plate positioned downstream from the gaseous jet outlet and against which filamentary tow impinges, becomes slowed and then cascades downwardly therealong; and a gas-impervious cylindrical shell opposed to and spaced from the exit end of the downwardly sloped plate and against which the filamentary tow travels from the downwardly sloped plate for subsequent slowing and movement therealong and then dropping from the cylindrical shell into the container below.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 25, 1980
Date of Patent: May 4, 1982
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: Benedict M. Lee, Gary W. Gibson
  • Patent number: 4206860
Abstract: Filamentary tow is puddled into a container from an air jet through an air dissipator apparatus, which slows the air-propelled tow by the tow impinging upon the dog-legged surfaces along the flow path within the apparatus and ricocheting therefrom while the propelling air is dissipated from the tow as the tow moves along the flow path and out of the apparatus for subsequent disposition into a container or the like that may be positioned below the air jet and the air dissipator apparatus connected to the end of the air jet.
