  • Publication number: 20030013447
Abstract: A method and system for facilitating handover in mobile radio communication systems are disclosed. The mobile unit assists in making handover decisions by monitoring the signal strength of control channels transmitted by base stations in neighboring cells. During the handover, the mobile station can receive the same information from and/or transmit the same information to a plurality of base stations to provide diversity combination and improve transmission quality.

  • Patent number: 5594949
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for allocating channels in a radiotelephone system wherein local estimation of interference for a potential new connection is achieved by measuring interference on the available downlink channels at a plurality of locations within a cell. The measurements can be made, for example, by already connected mobile stations, mobile stations which are not connected, fixed measurement stations or any combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 5487174
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for handling a bidirectional connection involving a mobile station in a cellular mobile radio communication system having adjacent cells of substantially different sizes, wherein the mobile station estimates the strength of radio signals received from base stations for cells of different sizes, the signal strength of radio signals received from the mobile station by base stations for cells of different sizes are estimated, decisions on which base station(s) should be responsible for an uplink channel of a bidirectional connection are based on uplink parameters including estimated strength for signals received at base stations, the signal strength at the base station(s) responsible for the uplink channel is used for controlling the output power of the mobile station, and decisions on which base station(s) should be responsible for the downlink channel of a bidirectional connection are based on downlink parameters including estimated strength of radio signals from base stations

  • Patent number: 5442635
Abstract: A method for dividing a frame structure for a mobile telephone system which operates in half-duplex, i.e. in which the transmission and reception of signals in a mobile takes place within mutually separate time-slots (TS0 and TM0 respectively). Each frame includes three time-slots, each intended for transmission and reception. According to the method, the frame structure is divided so that transmission (TX) first takes place in a transmission time-slot (TS0). Reception (RX) then takes places in a reception time-slot (TM0) which is separate from the transmission time-slot (TS0). Subsequent to reception (RX), the frame structure includes an idle time (t.sub.1) which remains until further transmission (TX) takes place in the next-following frame. The method enables the frequency synthesizer (FM) of the mobile in the reception direction to be set to a channel (f.sub.x) different to the reception channel (f.sub.m) and then to be reset accurately to the reception channel (f.sub.m).

  • Patent number: 5293423
Abstract: A synchronizing method in a mobile radio system which operates with Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) but which lacks global time reference for all base stations and mobiles in the system. The inventive method is intended for ciphered transmission of data and speech in accordance with a given ciphering key (E2). When handing-over a call, the ciphering synchronism is lost. In accordance with the method, subsequent to hand-off (the time t.sub.2), the take-over base station (BS2) signals non-ciphered information (S1) to the mobile (MS) disclosing the number of frames (R1-R13) which shall pass until ciphering can again be commenced, calculated from a given frame (R1). Call information is transmit the following frame (R2), this information now being ciphered with the aid of a ciphering key (E1) different to the original key. This other ciphering key consists of a periodic bit sequence having a period which is equal to one frame interval.

  • Patent number: 5081671
Abstract: A method of reducing blockages and call interruption in handling over calls in a cellular mobile radio system. When the signal strength from a base station to a mobile and vice versa falls below a given value the handover shall take place to another base station. In order that the call will not be interrupted, a smaller number of channels are reserved, so-called rescue channels, from the ordinary channels in the system. The rescue channels can be fixed or dynamic for a given base station.

  • Patent number: 4980907
Abstract: The invention relates to a combination of a switched telecommunication network, a telepoint connected to the network and a portable radio terminal constituting part of a residential equipment or an extension to a PABX, the portable radio terminal when served by a telepoint radio transceiver instead of its residential or exchange radio transceiver uses the telepoint and the network for calling its residential base radio station or PABX and reporting serving telepoint to a location store, calls to the portable radio terminal thereafter being transferred by the residential equipment or PABX through the network to the telepoint in accordance with information in the location store, whereby the portable radio terminal or cordless telephone may be called through the network and telepoint when in proximity of a telepoint.
