Patent number: 11698677Abstract: In accordance with various implementations, a method is performed at an electronic device with one or more processors, a non-transitory memory, and a display. The method includes determining an engagement score that characterizes a level of engagement between a user and a first object. The first object is located at a first location on the display. The method includes determining an interruption priority value that characterizes a relative importance of signaling a presence of a second object to the user. The second object is detectable by the electronic device. In some implementations, the method includes presenting the second object according to one or more output modalities of the electronic device. The method includes, in response to determining that the engagement score and the interruption priority value collectively together satisfy an interruption condition, presenting a notification.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2021Date of Patent: July 11, 2023Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Shih Sang Chiu, David H. Patent number: 11520456Abstract: In some embodiments, an electronic device emphasizes and/or deemphasizes user interfaces based on the gaze of a user. In some embodiments, an electronic device defines levels of immersion for different user interfaces independently of one another. In some embodiments, an electronic device resumes display of a user interface at a previously-displayed level of immersion after (e.g., temporarily) reducing the level of immersion associated with the user interface. In some embodiments, an electronic device allows objects, people, and/or portions of an environment to be visible through a user interface displayed by the electronic device. In some embodiments, an electronic device reduces the level of immersion associated with a user interface based on characteristics of the electronic device and/or physical environment of the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2021Date of Patent: December 6, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ieyuki Kawashima, Stephen O. Lemay, William A. Sorrentino, III, Alan C. Dye, M. Evans Hankey, Julian Jaede, Jonathan P. Ive, Kristi E. Bauerly, Benjamin Hunter Boesel, Shih-Sang Chiu, David H. Huang

Publication number: 20220229524Abstract: In some embodiments, an electronic device selectively performs operations in response to user inputs depending on whether the inputs are preceded by detecting a ready state. In some embodiments, an electronic device processes user inputs based on an attention zone associated with the user. In some embodiments, an electronic device enhances interactions with user interface elements at different distances and/or angles with respect to a gaze of a user. In some embodiments, an electronic device enhances interactions with user interface elements for mixed direct and indirect interaction modes. In some embodiments, an electronic device manages inputs from two of the user's hands and/or presents visual indications of user inputs. In some embodiments, an electronic device enhances interactions with user interface elements in a three-dimensional environment using visual indications of such interactions. In some embodiments, an electronic device redirects a selection input from one user interface element to another.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 20, 2022Publication date: July 21, 2022Inventors: Christopher D. MCKENZIE, Pol PLA I CONESA, Stephen O. LEMAY, William A. SORRENTINO, III, Shih-Sang CHIU, Jonathan RAVASZ, Benjamin Hunter BOESEL, Kristi E. BAUERLY

Publication number: 20210405743Abstract: In one implementation, a method for dynamic media item delivery. The method includes: presenting, via the display device, a first set of media items associated with first metadata; obtaining user reaction information gathered by one or more input devices while presenting the first set of media items; obtaining, via a qualitative feedback classifier, an estimated user reaction state to the first set of media items based on the user reaction information; obtaining one or more target metadata characteristics based on the estimated user reaction state and the first metadata; obtaining a second set of media items associated with second metadata that corresponds to the one or more target metadata characteristics; and presenting, via the display device, the second set of media items associated with the second metadata.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2021Publication date: December 30, 2021Inventors: Benjamin Hunter Boesel, Shih Sang Chiu, Jonathan Perron, David H. Publication number: 20190302903Abstract: Examples are disclosed herein that relate to a six degree-of-freedom (DOF) input device. An example provides an input device comprising a body, a sensor system configured to sense motion of the input device with six DOF, a communication interface and a controller. The controller is configured to transmit output based on sensor data from the sensor system for use in controlling an application in a first mode in which each of the six degrees-of-freedom is used as input, the application being controlled in the first mode in response to detecting a first condition, and transmit output based on sensor data from the sensor system for use in controlling the application in a second mode in which one or more of the six degrees-of-freedom is not used as input, the application being controlled in the second mode in response to detecting a second condition.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2018Publication date: October 3, 2019Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Charlene Mary ATLAS, Ishac BERTRAN, Benjamin Hunter BOESEL, Lorenz Henric JENTZ, Nikolai Michael FAALAND, Christian KLEIN, Xin Xian LIANG, Orr SROUR
