  • Patent number: 9624407
Abstract: A water soluble adhesive for use in assembling toy interlocking plastic building blocks is disclosed which add strength to assembled structures yet enables easy disassembly and reuse.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 25, 2016
Date of Patent: April 18, 2017
    Assignee: Spill-Tech Laboratory, Inc.
Inventors: Leon H. Phillips, III, Leon H. Phillips, Jr., Benny R. Wood
  • Patent number: 6180166
Abstract: A method of manufacture for an adhesive-based system to removably stick relatively flat articles on large area surfaces. A cured pressure-sensitive adhesive is coated on both sides of a central flat, flexible support scrim in a zoned thickness pattern which includes sufficient, continuous thickness such that the system is well suited to the removable installation of many types of articles having rough surface textures including, but not limited to, floor coverings such as woven and double-backed carpets having backs of a relatively rough texture and unitary backed carpet having a rough latex or polymeric coating and no applied secondary scrim. The adhesive is cured in situ but remains pressure sensitive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 2000
Date of Patent: January 30, 2001
Inventors: Benny R. Wood, Howard Burchett, Jr.

  • Patent number: 5721302
Abstract: A high shear strength, solvent-free water-based adhesive composition for removably fixing flooring materials which includes a major amount of an aqueous latex dispersion of a polymer latex base material with an optional minor amount of polyether or polyester-polyurethane synthetic resin, an amount of rosin acid ester hardener, an amount of a thickener together with an amount of inert filler and an amount of a plasticizer/extender in sufficient water to adjust the percent solids to the desired amount.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 17, 1996
Date of Patent: February 24, 1998
Inventors: Benny R. Wood, Howard Burchett, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5652288
Abstract: A rapid hardening, solvent-free water-based adhesive composition includes an amount of an aqueous latex dispersion of polyester-polyurethane synthetic resin, an amount of rosin acid ester hardener, an amount of a thickener together with an amount of inert filler and an amount of a plasticizer/extender in sufficient water to adjust the percent solids to the desired amount. Optionally, the adhesive composition also includes an amount of polyisocyanate cross-linker to provide additional environmental stability.

  • Patent number: 4970754
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved synthetic resinous formulation utilized to form a substrate for retention of carpet while securing tack and pre-nail elements in strip form, and with the pre-nails being adapted to secure the substrate in place along the edge surfaces of the floor and with the tack elements being adapted to retain the edge portions of a carpet in place thereon. The substrate is characterized in that it is formed essentially of a filled polyurethane compound which possesses unusual mechanical properties particularly desirable in the formation of carpet retaining strips. These properties include the flexibility to permit the strip to conform to an irregular floor surface, and furthermore can be readily cut and notched to allow it to be bent to conform to an inside or outside corner. Because of the excellent plastic memory, the carpet retaining tacks are held at a desired angle even when subjected to substantial lateral tension caused by the stretched in-place carpet.
