  • Method of withdrawing and exchanging catheters

    Abstract: A method for withdrawing a first catheter inserted into a patient's vasculature over a resident guidewire, without removing the guidewire, is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing an elongated tubular container having a proximal end and a distal end, and having an extension wire disposed therein for the length of the tubular container and axially secured to the proximal end of the container, axially connecting the distal end of the extension wire to the proximal end of the resident guidewire, and withdrawing the catheter over the resident guidewire and extension wire into the container.
