  • Patent number: 9695674
Abstract: A system is described for injecting small controlled amounts of fluid, such as de-emulsifier, into a flowing line at high pressure, in a high-pressure environment such as a subsea environment. The system is connected to the flowing line by tubing lines. It is enclosed either in a high-pressure vessel able to withstand high external pressure or in a vessel that is pressure-matched with the environment. The system is able to inject a controlled volume of fluid into the flowing line at relatively low injection rates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 2014
Date of Patent: July 4, 2017
    Assignee: ONESUBSEA IP UK LIMITED
Inventors: Bernard E. Theron, Malcolm Atkinson
  • Patent number: 9618427
Abstract: The disclosure describes a system to segregate, enrich and capture oil, water and gas samples from a multiphase flow. The system can be used in a subsea location, on the surface or in any other condition where it is connected to a flow of different phases of gas and/or liquid. The samples obtained are representative in composition of the phases flowing at well head conditions in terms of both pressure and temperature. Additionally, a relatively small volume of each phase is used in obtaining the samples. The system connects and disconnects to ports installed at the sampling location nearby the wellhead or the production line. The sampling flow is controlled by means of a pump. The collected samples are separated in mono (or nearly mono)—phase samples (oil, water and gas) and stored in individual bottles.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20120267115
Abstract: A system and method are provided for collecting fluid samples from a fluid flowline located subsea. The system includes a multiphase sampling apparatus attachable to the flowline, and a vehicle sampling apparatus that is connectable to the multiphase sampling apparatus to allow the transfer of the collected fluid sample thereto. The vehicle sampling apparatus is preferably a subsea remotely operated vehicle (ROV) locatable proximate the fluid flowline and having a fluid sample collector and a fluid pump for transferring the collected fluid sample from the multiphase sampling apparatus to the fluid sample collector. The vehicle sampling apparatus includes a fluid analysis sensor capable of extracting information about the collected fluid sample at a subsea location. Optionally, the vehicle sampling apparatus can transport the collected fluid sample to a location remote from the fluid flowline for analysis.

  • Patent number: 5361206
Abstract: A method of analyzing the flow in an inclined well, which flow comprises both oil and water is described. For a depth at which at least one flow parameter measurement is available, and given the inclination and the diameter of the well at that depth, the measured value is used to establish a profile for the variation of the flow parameter. The profile of the flow parameter is established along an axis defined by the diameter of the well cross-section that lies in a vertical plane using a model that assumes a layer comprising a turbulent mixture of water and oil.
