  • Patent number: 4668713
Abstract: Compositions useful as UV curable conformal coatings are mixtures, substantially free of isocyanate condensation catalyst, of the following constituents:(i) a compound having two or more alkenyl or alkynyl groups;(ii) a compound having two or more mercapto groups;(iii) a compound having two or more isocyanate groups; and(iv) a free radical photoinitiator. The composition cures by a secondary mechanism in shadow areas and has a long pot life, for example 8-24 hours.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 16, 1985
Date of Patent: May 26, 1987
    Assignee: Loctite (Ireland) Limited
Inventors: John Woods, John M. Rooney, Bernard J. Bolger
  • Patent number: 4533446
Abstract: An anaerobic adhesive composition activatable by ultraviolet or visible radiation is disclosed which forms strong bonds with lapped surfaces and which is comprised of (a) an anaerobically polymerizable acrylate ester monomer, (b) a compound which decomposes upon exposure to ultraviolet or visible light radiation to release a strong acid, (c) a peroxy free radical initiator capable of initiating the polymerization of the monomer upon substantial exclusion of oxygen and (d) an activator of anaerobic polymerization which, in the presence of a strong acid, reacts with the peroxide initiator to produce free radicals to catalyze the anaerobic polymerization of the monomer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 20, 1983
Date of Patent: August 6, 1985
    Assignee: Loctite (Ireland) Ltd.

  • Patent number: 4243578
Abstract: An improved dental filling material is prepared from polymerizable urethane-acrylate resins which cure by a free-radical mechanism to form hard and durable filling compositions which bond strongly and adhesively to tooth enamel, to dentin, to dental prostheses and to preexisting dental filling materials.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 17, 1980
Date of Patent: January 6, 1981

  • Patent number: 4043982
Abstract: This invention relates to polymerizable compositions, which serve as adhesives, sealants, potting compounds, etc., the primary components of which are an acyl peroxide initiator, an arylamine polymerization accelerator, and a polymerizable acrylate-isocyanate monomer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 30, 1975
Date of Patent: August 23, 1977
    Assignee: Loctite (Ireland) Limited
Inventors: Denis J. O'Sullivan, Bernard J. Bolger, T. Eisert Casey
  • Patent number: 4038345
Abstract: Stable cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions having viscosities greater than about 200 centipoise are prepared by incorporating therein, as a thickening agent, a soluble acrylic polymer having a reduced viscosity of about 5 or greater, and a content of free radical polymerization initiator less than 1% by weight. These properties are obtained by subjecting the thickening agent to temperatures of about 140.degree.-180.degree. C. for about 30-180 minutes prior to incorporating it in the cyanoacrylate.
