    Abstract: This invention consists of an improved design and assembly process the for manufacture of a single ended quartz (SEQ) lamp having three-part leads and a prefocus base for projection applications. This invention consists of a much simpler two-pin prefocus ceramic base SEQ lamp design that is made with fewer parts and is much easier and faster to assemble to enable much reduced labor and cost. Also, the ceramic base is smaller and exposes more of the quartz lamp seal to the surroundings to enable more effective cooling during lamp operation to prevent lamp failures from overheated seals. Also, the ceramic base is designed for quick assembly with the coil correctly focused to the base.

    Abstract: This invention consists of an improved design and assembly process the for manufacture of a single ended quartz (SEQ) lamp for projection applications. The lamp (A) includes a hermetically sealed envelope (10) which houses a filament (15). A ceramic base (12) receives the envelope in a receiving slot (26). Cement fill in the slot, around the hermetic seal, bonds the envelope to the base. Ends (18,20) of the filament extend into the seal region (22) and are electrically connected to a power source by three-part leads (14,16). This invention consists of a much simpler two-pin prefocus ceramic base SEQ lamp design that is made with fewer parts and is much easier and faster to assemble to enable much reduced labor and cost.     Abstract: An inlead for an electric lamp formed of an alloy of tungsten and molybdenum. The inlead has a rate of thermal expansion or contraction approximating that of the glass forming the bulb. This minimizes the expansion/contraction mis-match stress between the two materials. In addition, the alloy composition functions to reduce oxidation and degradation of the lead.

    Abstract: An improved coiled-coil filament for use in an incandescent lamp has a primary coil winding with a substantially uniform spacing between successive coil turns. The primary coil winding is wound around a second mandrel in a manner to provide a main coil body and leg portions extending therefrom. A helical bend is formed between the main coil body and the leg portions thereby allowing that the leg portions extend toward a seal region of the lamp envelope in a substantially parallel relation to each other. Once the main coil body has been set in shape, the first and second mandrels are removed such that the leg portions are disposed in the seal region of the lamp envelope in a spaceless, and optional spudless manner.

    Abstract: The incandescent lamp includes a glass bulb having a longitudinal axis and two filaments formed of a coil within the bulb supported with their longitudinal axes oriented parallel to the bulb's longitudinal axis. For supporting the filaments, three support wires are provided, each with an outer portion fixed to the bulb and extending parallel to the bulb longitudinal axis and an inner portion extending substantially perpendicular to the outer portion. The inner and outer portions of all three support wires are located in a single reference plane extending parallel to the bulb longitudinal axis. The filaments are joined to the support wires by four welded joints that can be applied in the single reference plane. The inner portions of the second and third support wires extend toward each other and are substantially aligned. The bulb has a glass seal portion through which the outer portion of the support wires extend and by which the outer support wire are fixed in a laterally spaced apart relation.
