  • Publication number: 20110274946
Abstract: A cast body, being a tool for forming or original molding a work piece, or a transfer member for transferring a force or torque onto a tool which contacts the work piece during forming or original molding, wherein the cast body is cast from an iron base alloy which forms an interior zone of the cast body made of grey cast iron and, around the interior zone, a circumferential rim zone which includes the outer circumference of the cast body and has a surface hardness which is greater than 400 HV, wherein the circumferential rim zone consists of ribbon grain or superfine ribbon grain pearlite with embedded free graphite, preferably spheroidal graphite or vermicular graphite, or of an intermediate structure with spheroidal graphite or vermicular graphite.

  • Patent number: 6796371
Abstract: A roller for thermally treating web-shaped media, comprising a roller body which is rotatable about its central longitudinal axis, and peripheral bores introduced in axial parallel in the roller body, for conveying a heating medium, wherein other axially parallel balancing bores are formed in the roller body in addition to the peripheral bores for the heating medium, said balancing bores running from an end face of the roller body towards the center of the roller body.

  • Patent number: 6588332
Abstract: In a group of rolls for a calender for processing material webs, comprising at least two rolls each having a roll body made of a cast or forged iron material, at least one of the roll bodies consists of chilled cast iron or shell-chilled cast iron. One or more rolls may have a cover of a resilient material, such as a polymeric plastic. Although it is possible for the outer diameters of the rolls to differ, the sag of the rolls when they are supported only in their rolling-contact bearings is substantially equal. In order to produce appropriate rolls, following the essential machining steps of the roll bodies, that is to say, for example, following casting, following preliminary turning, following preliminary boring and, if appropriate, following the introduction of peripheral bores, the actual mean modulus of elasticity of the entire roll body is measured and, as a function of this, in particular the inner diameters of the central bores are produced.

  • Patent number: 5725466
Abstract: A peripherally drilled roll for the heat treatment of web material, includes a roll body having axially parallel drilled passages disposed just beneath its surface for guiding a heat-carrying fluid, at least one flange pin bolted to the front end of said roll body having a central bore, supply and discharge passages for the heat-carrying fluid in the flange pin, and connecting passages in the flange pin for the axially parallel drilled passages, wherein the supply and discharge passages are formed as blind holes meeting in the flange pin and produce the flow connection between the central bore and the front end ports of the axially parallel drilled passages, and the connecting passages of the axially parallel drilled passages are configured in the flange pin as blind holes meeting therein.
