  • Publication number: 20100141165
Abstract: A method for igniting and for starting high-pressure discharge lamps is provided. The method may include applying a takeover voltage to the lamp for a predetermined time of a burst; superimposing ignition pulses on the takeover voltage in such a way that the voltage of the ignition pulses and the takeover voltage are added up and an interruption being provided between two bursts; and changing the ignition pulses from burst to burst or within a burst from the positive half-cycle of the takeover voltage to the negative half-cycle of the takeover voltage, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 6902238
Abstract: A personal transportation seat, in particular for aircraft passengers, includes individually adjustable seat parts (3, 7). At least one seat part may be moved against a returning force, with a force reservoir (11), normally blocked by a locking device. A switch arrangement (35, 37) can move the locking device into an ineffective state to release the force reservoir (11) to generate the returning force on the movable seat part (3, 7). The switch device is a servo drive for each adjustable seat part (3, 7) for the generation of an adjusting force which renders each locking device ineffective. Each servo device is controllable by a manually displaced handle (35, 37), which is made to match the contour of the relevant seat part (3, 7) for adjustment, by virtue of its form and arrangement.

  • Patent number: 6042503
Abstract: There are disclosed a method of and an apparatus for automated actuation of a friction clutch or another torque transmitting system in the power train of a motor vehicle. An actuator for the torque transmitting system can be rendered operative by the ignition key and/or as a result of one or more activities of the operator of the motor vehicle prior or subsequent to insertion of the ignition key. The activity or activities can include the engagement of a brake, the shifting of a transmission lever, stepping on the gas pedal and/or others.

  • Patent number: 6029784
Abstract: In a vehicle having an automatically actuatable clutch arranged in the drive train between engine and transmission, the clutch is released or maintained released in the event of a brief interruption in the power supply to the clutch control device while activation of the clutch control device still exists.

  • Patent number: 5967121
Abstract: A simplified, economical, noise-abating mode of securing a unit embodied for instance as a valve. For securing the unit, the unit has a housing with a first portion having a first encompassing outer face and at least one second portion having at least one second encompassing outer face, wherein a first sealing ring can be mounted on the first outer face, and the first portion and first sealing ring can be introduced into a recess of an installation wall. A second sealing ring can be mounted on the second outer face of the second portion, and the second portion and second sealing ring can likewise be introduced into the recess, so that the support of the unit in the recess is effected by means of the first and second sealing rings without the first and second outer faces of the unit resting on inner faces of the recess.

  • Patent number: 5653200
Abstract: The invention joins the intake module or intake tube to the engine with the aid of a displaceable retaining element. The retaining element, which in the mounted state is under initial tension, is braced against an engine retention face associated with the engine and against at least one counterpart intake module retention face joined to the intake module or intake tube. Because of the displaceability of the retaining element, the expense and effort of mounting and dismantling the intake module or intake tube to the engine by screws are substantially reduced. The engine is intended in particular for motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4273949
Abstract: An arc furnace roof has a central portion formed by a circular group of individually suspended segments having sides which cooperatively form openings for the passage of arcing electrodes. Each segment is formed by a metal shell having cooling water inlets and outlets and internal baffles causing cooling water to be guided through the shell so that cooling is adequate to avoid the need for lining the bottoms of the segments with thick refractory linings, the bottoms being only coated with a thin layer of refractory electrical insulation. The electrode openings have refractory electrical insulation to isolate the segments from electrode currents.
