  • Patent number: 4720756
Abstract: A positioning apparatus has a guidance system including first and second bearing means in which a pressure on one side of a guide plate and a height adjustment on its other side to be positioned are sufficient to provide an unambiguous controlled guidance virtually without deviation from the axis of movement of the guide plate. An advantageous construction is provided by a rotary bearing arrangement substantially in the form of an isosceles triangle. A particular mounting pivot point on the bearing support simplifies the assembly of an apparatus having a band drive means. The apparatus is suitable for all types of information recording and playback apparatuses employing disks or disk-shaped media, and also for positioning purposes in robots, etc.

  • Patent number: 4672491
Abstract: In a memory processing unit, a magnetic-head positioning device having a longitudinally actuated carriage with a guide plate carrying the head, or heads, which plate has longitudinal edges and an upper and lower face, one of these faces being in engagement with a spool wheel driving the plate via a belt and the longitudinal edges of the guide plate being guided between a pair of anti-friction bearings. Linear, three-point contact of the guide plate with the bearings and with the spool wheel is insured, regardless of lateral displacement of the guide plate, by mounting the bearings so that they are tiltable, in a plane transverse to the longitudinal movement of the guide plate, by a limited amount.

  • Patent number: 4109317
Abstract: A magnetic thin film storage device of simplified design working on the shift register principle and comprising a flat support to which a ferromagnetic layer has been applied, which layer contains regions of different coercivity, lower-coercivity regions being surrounded by regions of higher coercivity, and also comprising electric conductors extending in planes which are parallel to the support, the conductors serving to produce the magnetic fields required to propagate magnetic domains into the lower-coercivity regions, at least one group of channels being provided which terminate in the same enlarged lower-coercivity area, and the magnetic domains contained in the channels terminating in the said enlarged area being propagated individually and consecutively into that enlarged area.
