  • Patent number: 7746026
Abstract: A method of controlling a state of charge of a battery in a vehicle includes receiving a request to enter an enhanced charging mode. A target for the state of charge is increased from a normal operating target to at least one enhanced mode target. The state of charge may be controlled to the at least one enhanced mode target during a drive charging cycle and during a park charging cycle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 2006
Date of Patent: June 29, 2010
Assignees: Chrysler Group LLC, Daimler AG
Inventors: Christopher Richard Koziara, Daniel Navarro Rios, Bernd Spier, Kenneth Joseph Wenzel
  • Patent number: 7554330
Abstract: This objective is achieved according to the present invention in that in a method for determining the deterioration of a battery, the charge and discharge cycles of the battery are measured by number and depth of the charge/discharge. For each of the charge and discharge cycles, a characteristic deterioration value is determined on the basis of a deterioration curve that is characteristic of the specific battery type. These individual characteristic deterioration values are then summed up to obtain the deterioration of the battery.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 23, 2004
Date of Patent: June 30, 2009
    Assignee: Daimler AG
Inventors: Cyrus Ashtiani, Rick Lagerstrom, Otmar Bitsche, Bernd Spier

  • Publication number: 20030193311
Abstract: A system and a method are used for charging a battery which is connected to intermittently operated devices for providing power required for charging, such as an engine-driven generator in a motor vehicle, for example. In order to provide the battery with additional charge, a fuel cell system is also used. The battery may be kept at a minimum specified state of charge, for example, by the fuel cell system. Discharge by stand-by currents or leakage currents may be compensated or maintenance charge may be provided to the approximately fully charged battery to extend its service life.
