  • Patent number: 5203198
Abstract: A workpiece-treating machine having a table with a pair of longitudinal edges and a working station between the edges has an apparatus for positioning a workpiece in the station which in turn has a generally square section metal tube extending along one edge of the table and formed with a longitudinally extending inner T-slot to which the one edge of the table is secured by T-fasteners, a pair of transversely spaced but longitudinally extending and upwardly open outer T-slots, and a pair of outwardly open and longitudinally extending outer T-slots. A longitudinally extending guide rod is supported at the one table edge by supports and T-fasteners that fix the guide rod on the table in the outwardly open T-slots at the one edge in a position extending parallel to the longitudinal edges. A carriage longitudinally displaceable along the guide rod is fixed to one end of an elongated traverse extending transverse to the longitudinal edges.

  • Patent number: 5161298
Abstract: A combined sawing and drilling machine for structural steel shapes such as I beams has a circular saw unit and the drilling unit mounted on a common plate or on respective plates on a common foundation adjacent one another so that the clamping screw for replacement of the blade is actuated through a window or opening in the plate carrying the drill units, thereby allowing the drilling unit and the saw to be disposeed closer together when the roller conveyor is equipped with only one position-measuring unit and thereby reducing cut-off waste.

  • Patent number: 5156077
Abstract: A sawing apparatus has a frame, a saw blade rotatable on the frame about a horizontal axis and displaceable transversely of the axis, and a conveyor for displacing an elongated workpiece longitudinally in a transport direction generally parallel to the saw-blade axis past the saw blade. The conveyor has upstream and downstream drive rollers flanking the blade mounted on the frame on one side of the workpiece and respective upstream and downstream holding rollers mounted on the frame transversely juxtaposed with the drive rollers and engaging the opposite longitudinal side of the workpiece. Upstream and downstream abutment blocks on the frame engageable with the one side of the workpiece immediately flank the blade and upstream and downstream pusher blocks on the frame engage the opposite longitudinal side of the workpiece transversely opposite the respective abutment blocks.

  • Patent number: 5018911
Abstract: A drilling device for drilling holes in structural steel shapes utilizes a control system having a pair of control pistons to set the drill bit at an optimum distance from the workpiece for repeated drilling of holes through material of a given thickness. The control device responds to position switches sensing the positions of the drill-feed cylinder and the control pistons.

  • Patent number: 4945752
Abstract: A tool carrier for a punch or stamping machine in which the positioning piston-and-cylinder devices for respective actuating elements are disposed with a fixed center-to-center spacing from one another on opposite sides of a plane of symmetry and the tool holders are disposed in the tool carrier with their tools located symmetrically with respect to this plane so that individual tools can be operatively enabled by single actuating elements, larger tools by pairs of such actuating elements and even larger tools by two pairs of such actuating elements in symmetrical relationship.

  • Patent number: 4922744
Abstract: The punch machine comprises a U-shaped member having an upper leg, a lower leg and a crosspiece to thereby form a U-shaped work space open on the front side of the punch machine but closed on the rear side by the crosspiece between the upper leg and the lower leg, a punch piston-cylinder unit with a punch tool mounted in the upper leg and a die-bearing member and/or a workpiece receiving member mounted in the lower leg. At least the upper leg experiences a bending moment and a resultant elastic deformation caused by the punching force occurring during the punching operation. To reduce the deformation, a tie bar connects both the lower and the upper legs located horizontally between the crosspiece and the punch piston-cylinder unit. This tie bar passes through or by the work space. It may be moved horizontally according to the punching force to reduce the elastic deformation. Also a process is described for operating the punch machine which keeps the bending moment constant.

  • Patent number: 4911049
Abstract: A stop assembly is used in combination with a machine that acts at a working station on a workpiece that is fed in a predetermined feed direction through the station. It has a base fixed to the machine adjacent the station and a support having a free end and movable on the base in the direction relative to the station and fixable in positions variably spaced in the direction from the station. A spring extending and incompressible in the direction has an outer end fixed to the free end of the support and an inner end lying between its outer end and the station. This spring is elastically deformable between its ends transverse to the direction. A stop element is fixed to the inner end of the spring and defines a stop surface turned toward and spaced from the station.

  • Patent number: 4688456
Abstract: An apparatus for punching of an angular steel profile comprises a feed conveyor and a discharge conveyor for the angular steel profile, a rigid frame portion, two punch carriages and at least one punch carriage positioning motor for moving the punch carriages mounted on the frame portion and a servomechanism for positioning at least one of the punch carriages according to the tolerances, particularly the angular tolerances, of the angular steel profile to be worked. The servomechanism for positioning the punch carriage has a compressively loaded roller sensor contacting on a reference surface of the angular steel profile and a signaling member operated by the roller sensor. The feed conveyor, the discharge conveyor and the punches are equipped for feeding and working a vertically oriented V-shaped angular steel profile.

  • Patent number: 4338838
Abstract: An apparatus for slitting workpieces has a machine frame which includes a work support, a workpiece stop and a rotary saw which is slidable in the frame. The frame is supported on feet, at least two of which are positioned on a line parallel to the feed path of a workpiece into the apparatus. Another of the feet can be hydraulically withdrawn to allow the machine frame to tilt about an axis defined by engagement of the aforesaid two feet with a bedplate, and thereby to bring the work support and the lower part of the workpiece stop below the workpiece feed path, so that a workpiece may be advanced unobstructed into the apparatus. The apparatus is tilted back to its working position after the workpiece is in its desired position.
