Publication number: 20230067025Abstract: An end effector for gripping and spinning a pipe includes a head portion including a first connection interface for connecting the end effector to a robotic arm. In addition, the end effector includes a pair of jaws rotatably connected to the head portion between an open position and a gripping position. Further, the end effector includes a spinner for spinning a pipe held by the pair of jaws in the gripping position around a spinning axis generally corresponding to a longitudinal centre axis of the pipe. The first connection interface has a normal which is substantially parallel to the spinning axis. There is also disclosed a robot including an end effector as well a robot assembly and a drilling installation including such as robot.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2022Publication date: March 2, 2023Applicant: National Oilwell Varco Norway ASInventors: Andreas Johan LINDBLOM, Morten Roger SPORSHEIM, Arnstein Bernt OLSEN

Patent number: 11187216Abstract: A plunger tool and method relating thereto is designed to remove and insert plungers of a reciprocating pump such as during maintenance and other disassembly operations. The tool has a guide which receives and supports the plunger after removal from, and before reinsertion into, the pump. The tool also has a rack and pinion actuator for moving the plunger.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2020Date of Patent: November 30, 2021Assignee: KLX ENERGY SERVICES LLCInventors: Bertrom Ballard, Jr., Justin Steven Merchant, Bernt Olsen

Patent number: 10954730Abstract: A gate-valve and/or hot-tap drilling system uses a secondary pack-off or sealing element which can be engaged when the primary sealing element develops a leak. Generally, the secondary sealing element is configured to have an engaged position in which a fluid tight seal is formed such that the secondary sealing element engages the bore wall in a pressure-containing housing and drill rod extending through the bore defined by the bore wall. The fluid tight seal prevents fluid flow in the annulus, if the primary seal develops a leak. When the primary seal is working normally—no fluid leak—the secondary sealing element is in a disengaged position where a fluid tight seal is not formed with the bore wall and drill rod.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2019Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: QES PRESSURE CONTROL LLCInventors: Steve Winters, Bernt Olsen

Publication number: 20130255969Abstract: A weight controlled slip interlock system provides increased safety for a snubbing unit. Slips for a snubbing unit is operable between an open position and a closed position, and valves actuates the slips between the open and closed positions. Weight sensors are coupled to the slips, wherein the weight sensors measures the loads on the slips to determine whether one or more of the slips are controlling the weight of a workstring. Interlocks are coupled to the valves to prevent the valves from actuating from the closed position into the open position when the corresponding slip controls the weight of the workstring.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2012Publication date: October 3, 2013Applicant: Cudd Pressure Control, Inc.Inventors: Bernt Olsen, Randall D. Patent number: 8382399Abstract: A heave compensation system that facilitates the transfer of pipe between a floating platform and a snubbing jack. The heave compensation system includes a first end connected to the floating platform and a second end in connection with a traveling slip assembly of the snubbing jack, the heave compensation system is operable between a disengaged position and an engaged position. When the heave compensation system is in the disengaged position the traveling slip assembly moves separate and independent from the movement of the floating platform, and when the heave compensation system is in the engaged position the traveling slip assembly is locked in a constant position relative to the floating platform.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2008Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Cudd Pressure Control, Inc.Inventors: Bernt Olsen, Randall D.
