  • Patent number: 6918900
Abstract: Absorbent articles with friction-inducing substances at one or more predetermined application zones, as well as methods for using the absorbent articles and methods for preparing the absorbent articles, are disclosed. The absorbent articles have unexpectedly superior fit, distribution, comfort, leak protection, skin protection, absorbency and/or cost-efficiency.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 25, 2001
Date of Patent: July 19, 2005
    Assignee: Paragon Trade Brands, Inc.
    Inventor: Betsy Johnson
  • Publication number: 20040238095
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for attaching mechanical fasteners to absorbent articles using slow-crystallizing hot melt adhesives under conditions sufficient to result in a mechanical fastener/absorbent article bond static shear strength of at least about 50 min/kg. Preferred mechanical fasteners include hook-type fastener tabs. The present invention provides an efficient, reliable method for attaching mechanical fasteners to absorbent articles which is superior to previous techniques. The present invention also relates to absorbent articles produced by the described method.

  • Publication number: 20040236300
Abstract: This disclosure describes an absorbent article, preferably a diaper, having improved stretchability. Specifically, a portion of the waist region of the absorbent article that contains a connection mechanism is stretched by applying a predetermined force to the waist region and connection mechanism. The waist region stretches more than about 125% of its original width when an 800 gram force is applied, and the connection mechanism stretches by more than about 200% of its original width, when an 800 gram force is applied. The absorbent article has improved flexibility and is capable of fitting a variety of wearer sizes.

  • Publication number: 20030120244
Abstract: Absorbent articles having a novel leg cuff configuration, methods for using same and methods for preparing same, are disclosed. In particular, the absorbent articles comprise a polymer barrier and a pair of leg cuffs configured to provide unexpectedly superior comfort for wearers of the absorbent articles. The absorbent articles further unexpectedly provide superior fit about the legs of the wearer and consequentially superior lateral leak protection.
