  • Publication number: 20130074733
Abstract: Solid waste of metallic or plastic composition is cleansed of contaminants by solvent extraction using a combination of primary solvent and co-solvents that may be pressurized and heated to above the critical state. The process is particularly applicable to the remediation of solids contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls. Contamination can be reduced to less than two parts per million (by weight).
    Type: Application

    Publication date: March 28, 2013
Inventors: Lalit Chordia, Jose L. Martinez, Bhishmakumar Desai
  • Patent number: 7722771
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for the continuous processing and solids handling in near-critical and supercritical fluids. The present invention also allows for treatment of the starting material with the near-critical or supercritical fluid. The remaining raffinate is then continuously transferred and may be collected in a barrier fluid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 12, 2005
Date of Patent: May 25, 2010
    Assignee: Thar Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Lalit Chordia, Jose L. Martinez, Bhishmakumar Desai, Andrew Kegler

  • Publication number: 20050170063
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for separating soluble substances from a starting material using a compressed fluid. The present invention also provides a means for reducing the solvent to feed ratio and breakup of the starting material stream into fine droplets by refluxing a portion of the outlet stream from the extraction vessel. The present invention also provides a means for transferring and collecting the insoluble substances that are left in the extraction vessel. The present invention also provides for a phospholipid composition produced from the process of using a compressed fluid for the removal of residual alcohol. The residual alcohol content in the phospholipid composition is less than 0.5%.
