  • Publication number: 20040128267
Abstract: A method and system for determining a feature of a particular pattern are provided. In particular, data records are received, and predetermined patterns that are associated with at least some of the data records are obtained. Using the system and method, particular information is extracted from at least a subset of the received data records, the particular information being indicative of the particular pattern in at least some of the data records. Then, it is determined whether the particular pattern is an unexpected pattern based on the obtained predetermined patterns. In addition, it is possible to classify and reduce data and/or parameters provided in the data records. First, the data records are received. Then, the data records which have at least one particular pattern are classified using a Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines technique. Thereafter, the data and/or parameters of the classified data records are shrunk using a Stein's Estimator Rule technique.

  • Patent number: 6340567
Abstract: A method of producing high-resolution, high-accuracy ordered restriction maps based on data created from the images of populations of individual DNA molecules (clones) digested by restriction enzymes. Detailed modeling and a statistical algorithm, along with an interactive algorithm based on dynamic programming and a heuristic method employing branch-and-bound procedures, are used to find the most likely true restriction map, based on experimental data.

  • Patent number: 6221592
Abstract: The present invention also relates to single molecule optical sequencing methods and systems for determining the nucleotide sequence of individual double stranded nucleic acid molecules elongated and fixed to a solid-surface by nicking the nucleic acid molecule, enzymatically adding labeled nucleotides and imaging the labeled nucleotides.

  • Patent number: 5898793
Abstract: A system and method for surface rendering and for the display and analysis of arbitrary structures within the interior of a solid body is presented. The method uses as a starting point a voxel element which is known to be crossed by a surface of interest. The surface is rendered in a topologically consistent way by connecting encountered surface hits at each voxel face. A pair of voxel face hits, surrounding a vertex value exceeding the surface value are used to form a triangle, spun around a third articulating point in the interior of the voxel. Voxel faces sharing the surface hits are sequentially examined, and a set of approximation triangles is formed, to build a triangularization grid. The rendered surfaces are interactively displayed and analyzed for global structure properties.

  • Patent number: 5541485
Abstract: A parallel jaw robotic gripper and method for operating the gripper to grasp an unknown object are disclosed. The parallel jaw gripper of the present invention includes two pairs of light sources and sensors mounted on opposing extensions of each gripper. The light sources and detectors on each jaw are used to produce and detect the interruption of a pair of parallel light beams and/or a pair of crossed light beams by the object to be grasped. The gripper is rotated, translated, and/or closed in accordance with the detected status of the light beams in a simple table-driven manner by which the gripper is positioned to grasp the object with a stable grasping configuration. The gripper of the present invention can grasp an object of an unknown shape without disturbing or touching the object before grasping it.
