  • Patent number: 7982437
Abstract: A battery control module monitors discharge voltages associated with a traction battery of an automotive vehicle. The battery control module cycles the traction battery at a discharge-voltage dependent charge/discharge profile to generate heat within the traction battery.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 6, 2008
Date of Patent: July 19, 2011
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Viet Quoc To, Joseph Stanek, Bijal Patel, Bruce Carvell Blakemore, Philip Michael Gonzales, Josephine S. Lee
  • Patent number: 7692401
Abstract: An off-board battery cycler is used to condition an on-board battery system used in electric or hybrid electric vehicles. The battery cycler periodically discharges the vehicle's high voltage traction battery to eliminate battery “memory” that can prevent the battery from being fully charged. The cycler also recharges both the high voltage battery and an on-board low voltage battery used to power the vehicle's electrical system. High voltage AC power used in recharging the high voltage battery is switched using contactors physically isolated within the battery cycler, in order to protect operating personnel from coming onto contact with high voltage.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 18, 2006
Date of Patent: April 6, 2010
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Philip Gonzales, Bijal Patel, Josephine Lee, Majed Mohammed

  • Patent number: 7445237
Abstract: An air bag includes a wall defining an interior in which a gas is received to inflate the air bag, and at least one vent opening through the wall and a vent valve carried by the wall. The vent valve has at least one valve opening, and the vent valve is moveable between a first position where the valve opening is aligned with at least one vent opening and a second position where the valve opening is at least partially misaligned with at least one vent opening to at least partially close the vent opening. The vent valve is in its first position until deployment of the air bag beyond a threshold which moves the vent valve to its second position.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 2006
Date of Patent: November 4, 2008
    Assignee: Chrysler LLC
Inventors: Walter J. Boyle, III, Bijal Patel
  • Publication number: 20080180058
Abstract: A system for charging an electric storage battery in an electric vehicle includes a first converter electrically connectable to a first source of AC electric power, for converting AC from the first power source to a first DC output, a second converter electrically connectable to a second source of AC electric power that is out of phase relative to the first AC power source, for converting AC from the second power source to a second DC output, and a regulator electrically coupled to the first DC output, the second DC output and the battery, for producing and charging the battery with a third DC output having a higher voltage than the voltage of the first and the second DC outputs.

  • Publication number: 20060090033
Abstract: An algorithm facilitates optimization functionality for generating optimized response information. In facilitating such optimization, non-essential elements of the response information (i.e., unneeded for system interpretation) are eliminated thereby reducing the size of the response information and generating optimized response information as well as reducing the memory footprint of cache required for storing such optimized response information. Examples of such non-essential elements of response information include, but are not limited to, indention characters, tab characters, blank space characters and the like. Such optimization functionality is tailored to optimizing the size of response information being transmitted from a server. More specifically, it provides for reduction in bandwidth occupied by outgoing response information from a transmitting a server.
