  • Patent number: 7497512
Abstract: This invention is related to a mechanism for use in a rocker recliner chair that reduces the complexity and links of typical linkage mechanisms. The rocker recliner chair includes a base, a rocker cam assembly mounted on the base, a seat, a footrest, a backrest and a pair of linkage mechanisms mounted on opposite sides of the chair. Each of the linkage mechanisms includes a recliner mechanism, a drive mechanism, and a footrest mechanism. The recliner mechanism is coupled to the base. The drive mechanism includes an ottoman drive bell crank and an ottoman drive link. The ottoman drive bell crank is coupled to a rear portion of the recliner mechanism. The ottoman drive link couples the ottoman drive bell crank to the footrest mechanism. The footrest mechanism is connected to the recliner mechanism by a footrest extension linkage.

  • Patent number: 7413245
Abstract: This invention is related to a mechanism for use in motion furniture that reduces the complexity and links of typical linkage mechanisms. The mechanism has a base plate and a footrest mechanism. The mechanism also includes a seat support link coupled to the footrest mechanism and front and rear pivot links rotatably coupled to the seat support link and slidably and rotatably coupled to the base plate. An ottoman drive link is slidably and rotatably coupled to an intermediate portion of the front pivot link and rotatably coupled to an intermediate portion rear pivot link. A primary ottoman link couples the ottoman drive link and the footrest mechanism. The primary ottoman link is rotatably coupled to the seat support link at an intermediate portion, so that the primary ottoman link and the ottoman drive link cooperate to move footrest mechanism between a closed chair position and an open recliner position.

  • Patent number: 4919478
Abstract: An ottoman for a chair or sofa wherein the mechanism which carries the ottoman allows it to pivot upwardly or downwardly from its supporting bracket of an obstruction is encountered as the ottoman is retracted. In the event the ottoman pivots in either direction more than a selected angle, the ottoman remains in the pivoted position after the obstruction is removed unless a force is applied to return it to the normal position.

  • Patent number: 4805960
Abstract: A three-position incliner having a fixed back and side rail assembly with a seat and backrest mounted with a seat and backrest mounted for nonrestricted motion in the assembly. A linkage mechanism attached to each side rail supports the seat and backrest and the mechanism is handle actuated. The mechanism on each side includes a base plate attached to a side rail, a support link carried by front and rear pivot links in turn mounted on the base plate, a seat mounting link suspended from front and rear swing links in turn carried on the support link and a lazy tong linkage carrying a footrest and mounted on the seat mounting link.

  • Patent number: 4736984
Abstract: A central pivot rocker spring assembly for connecting a base to a lower frame member in a reclining chair with a rocking feature so that the lower frame member pivots about a single axis of rotation. The spring assembly includes a first bracket mountable to the base, a second bracket mountable to the lower frame member and pivot pins securing the brackets together on the axis of rotation. A leaf spring biases the first and second brackets to selected relative positions. The leaf spring passes through and is fixed in position at its center on the axis of rotation. Thumbscrews coupling the leaf spring to the second bracket permit independent adjustment of the forward and backward rocking motions of the chair. The thumbscrews are movable to permit wide variations in biasing forces.
