  • Publication number: 20140272432
Abstract: Methods for applying a coating to a substrate in rolled form, the substrate including a first edge face and a second edge face opposite the first edge face, the substrate further having a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface, the first and second major surfaces extending between the first edge face and the second edge face, the methods including applying a coating to at least one edge face and optionally at least a portion of one or both major surfaces of the substrate in rolled form. Articles in rolled form prepared according to the foregoing methods are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140017637
Abstract: Dental materials are provided in which a conformal coating is disposed on the inner surfaces of a dental composite. The conformal coating can be subsequently surface modified to provide a chemical bond between the compressible component and a hardenable resin, resulting in increased bond strength and reduced bond strength variability. Use of a thin conformal layer can provide a surprising enhancement in bond reliability while minimizing the collateral effect on the handling properties of the unhardened composite. The conformal coating can also improve the compressibility and decrease rebound in the overall dental composite during a bonding procedure and reduce the amount of extractable components.

  • Publication number: 20120171376
Abstract: A method of depositing a conformal coating on a porous non-ceramic substrate requires reactive gases to flow through the substrate so as to leave a conformal coating behind. The process can be used to leave a hydrophilic surface on the interior pores of the substrate, even when the substrate is of a naturally hydrophobic, e.g., olefinic material. The method can be used in a roll-to-roll process, or in a batch process. In some convenient embodiments of the latter case, the batch reactor and the conformally coated substrate or substrates can together go on to be come part of the end product, e.g., a filter body and the filter elements respectively.

  • Publication number: 20120171403
Abstract: An article of manufacture includes a body having an inlet and an outlet, and at least a portion of at least one porous non-ceramic substrate positioned such that the porous polymeric substrate separates the inlet from the outlet. The porous non-ceramic substrate has a conformal coating on at least a portion of its interior surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5310591
Abstract: A transparent image-recording sheet suitable for use in a plain paper copier, comprising a transparent backing having two major surfaces, said sheet having a machine direction, and a transverse direction, at least one of the major surfaces having coated thereon, a transparent water-based toner-receptive coating comprising:a) from about 65 to about 99.9 parts of an imageable polymer;b) from about 0.1 to about 15 parts of at least one polymeric particle having a mean particle size ranging from about 1 .mu.m to about 15 .mu.m, andc) from 0 to about 20 parts of an antistatic agent, the toner-receptive coating being coated onto the transparent backing at a time during manufacture of the backing selected from the group consisting ofa) before any orientation of said film, andb) after uniaxial orientation in the machine direction.

  • Patent number: 5310595
Abstract: An image recording sheet and a transparent water-based toner receptive coating therefore comprising an imaging copolymer formed from at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of bicyclic alkyl (meth) acrylates, aliphatic alkyl (meth)acrylates having from about one to about 12 carbon atoms, aromatic (meth)acrylates, and a polar monomer having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, R.sub.1 and R2 may be hydrogen, identical or differing alkyl groups having up to about 8 carbon atoms, preferably up to about 2 carbon atoms, or the quaternary cationic salts thereof, at least one novel long chain polymeric particle having good antifriction characteristics and optionally, an antistatic agent selected from the group consisting of cationic agents, anionic agents, fluorinated agents, and nonionic agents.
