  • Patent number: 5752814
Abstract: A plunger or traveling valve and seal for a well pump and an oil well pump in particular, which plunger includes a mandrel of selected length, at least one plastic sleeve fitted with at least one metal insert mounted on the mandrel for sealing the mandrel in a pump barrel and a ball and seat valve provided on at least one end of the mandrel. The plunger may include fiber rings and ring holders and is seated inside a conventional pump barrel and the plastic sleeve serves to seal the plunger as the plunger reciprocates in the barrel. The plastic seal is typically constructed of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with one or two flanged, typically brass, inserts tightly mounted in the plastic seal bore to control or limit thermal expansion in the plastic seal.

  • Patent number: 5430919
Abstract: Sucker rod guide clamping devices which in a first embodiment include a scissor clamping device provided with a pair of pivotally-disposed clamping jaws pivotally attached to corresponding pivoting jaw arms. One of the clamping jaws is provided with a projecting plate for engaging a sucker rod and the oppositely-disposed clamping jaw includes a pair of engaging flanges for receiving and seating a slotted sucker rod guide, wherein the sucker rod guide is installed on the sucker rod by pressure applied to the jaw arms. In a second embodiment a piston clamping device includes a C-shaped frame, in which is mounted a fluid cylinder, with a pair of engaging flanges provided in the frame for receiving a sucker rod guide and a fluid cylinder piston adapted to engage a sucker rod. Operation of the fluid cylinder extends the piston, forces the sucker rod into the sucker rod guide slot and installs the sucker rod guide on the sucker rod.

  • Patent number: 5154867
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene sucker rod guide, which includes the steps of providing a cylidnrical bar of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene having a selected length, drilling a lonitudinal bore in the bar using a parabolic bit, tapering the ends of the bar and cutting a tapered slot in the bar for mounting the bar on a sucker rod.

  • Patent number: 4938285
Abstract: An ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene sucker rod guide for mounting on a sucker rod in multiple, spaced units and preventing, or at least minimizing, contact between the sucker rod and the tubing which encloses the sucker rod. In a preferred embodiment the sucker rod guide is characterized by an extruded polyethylene plastic having an ultra-high molecular weight and ultra-high density which exhibits a wet coefficient of friction that is lower than that of metal, to increase the overall pumping efficiency of oil wells. In a most preferred embodiment of the invention, the sucker rod guide is constructed of a self-lubricating, ultra-high molecular weight, ultra-high density, extruded polyethylene bar stock. The sucker rod guide includes a longitudinal, grooved bore which is preferably undersized with respect to the sucker rod upon which the sucker rod guide is mounted and a tapered body slot which communicates with the bore for inserting the sucker rod guide on a sucker rod at a desired location.
