Patent number: 9132672Abstract: Methods and devices determine the media properties of a sheet of media exiting a printing device. The methods and devices apply the media properties to a predetermined velocity equation to calculate a corresponding sheet exit velocity for the sheet of media that will optimize stack quality in a particular output tray. Then, the methods and devices change process controls sheet movement elements within a media path of the printing device to cause the sheet of media to exit the printing device at the sheet exit velocity.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2011Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Victoria L. Warner, David L. Rasmussen, Michele D. Cleary, Aldwin A. Roberts, Benjamin W. Paulson, Biruk Gossaye, Jamison Delorenzo

Patent number: 8744328Abstract: A fluid delivery system is controlled to adjust a release fluid delivery rate to a rate that is predetermined to be effective for fusing a next sheet in a print job before the sheet arrives at a fusing nip. Predetermined rates and corresponding media types may be stored in memory. A controller controls the fluid release system for a print job in accordance with a print job schedule based on the predetermined fluid delivery rates.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2011Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Paul M. Fromm, David Mark Kerxhalli, Benjamin Whitney Paulson, Aldwin A. Roberts, Michele Donna Cleary, David Lee Rasmussen, Biruk Gossaye, Jamison Charles DeLorenzo

Patent number: 8477327Abstract: Embodiments herein process a plurality of jobs through a document handler (the jobs comprise one or more media sheets), scan the media sheets as the media sheets pass through the document handler and pass by a scanner, and maintain statistics of registration of the media sheets with respect to the scanner over time (hours or days). The method compares the statistics with a predetermined registration range and provides a notification of a scanner re-registration requirement when the statistics are outside the predetermined range.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2005Date of Patent: July 2, 2013Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Nancy Kelly, Biruk Gossaye

Patent number: 7900906Abstract: A method (200) and apparatus (100) control feed commitments based on feedable capacity. The apparatus may include a source (122) of feedable media sheets and a feeder module (120) coupled to the source of feedable media sheets, the feeder module configured to control the source of feedable media sheets. The apparatus may include a marking engine (132) coupled to the source of feedable media sheets, the marking engine configured to mark images on media sheets fed by the source of feedable media sheets. The apparatus may include a marker module (130) coupled to the marking engine, the marker module configured to control the marking engine. The apparatus may include a scheduler module (110) coupled to the feeder module and the marker module, the scheduler module configured to schedule feed commitments for the feeder module and mark commitments for the marker module.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2008Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Aldwin A. Patent number: 7755808Abstract: Embodiments herein begin by sensing first document presence data of a media sheet in a media path using a scanner. Then, the embodiments calculate a background correction factor for scanning the media sheet based on input from the scanner. Second document presence data is obtained from this background correction factor. If the second document presence data indicates that no media sheet is present (which is contrary to the first document presence data), there is a possibility that the first document presence data was false. In order to check if the first document presence data is false, the embodiments obtain third document presence data relating to alignment of the media sheet within the media path, again using the scanner. If the third document presence data also determines that no media sheet is present, this indicates that the media path is in need of cleaning.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2005Date of Patent: July 13, 2010Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Nancy Kelly, Biruk Gossaye

Patent number: 7564593Abstract: A document size identification module receives a single scan of a document and detects for at least one of a black to white transition and a white to black transition. The black to white transition may represent a transition from an overscan area of a platen to a document. The white to black transition may represent a transition from the document to the overscan area of the platen. By detecting at least one of the black to white transition and the white to black transition, the document width may be determined. By determining the document width, the document size may be identified.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2004Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Biruk Gossaye, Nancy R. Publication number: 20090110411Abstract: In a printing system having multiple document finishing assemblies, it is sometimes necessary to purge the system of print media which, as a result of a jam or other operational malfunction, remain within the printing system in an unfinished, unprinted, or otherwise undesirable condition. These “purge sheets” can be delivered to a separate purge tray provided at each document finishing assembly. A printing system having numerous document finishing assemblies will typically have a corresponding number of purge trays which must be cleared individually by an operator, which is inefficient and burdensome. The present disclosure provides a printing system and method which, in the event of a jam, consolidates purge sheets into a minimal number of purge trays. By minimizing the number of purge trays which must be cleared by an operator, efficiency gains and productivity increases can be realized.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2007Publication date: April 30, 2009Inventors: Mehmet Anil Gungor, Donald R. Ryan, Carol-Lynn Goldstein, Jeffrey Gramowski, Biruk Gossaye
