  • Publication number: 20220119081
Abstract: A method for constructing a floater for a floatable wind energy power plant includes providing a first pre-assembled part with at least one first connection arrangement, providing a second pre-assembled part with at least one second connection arrangement, arranging the at least one first connection arrangement of the first pre-assembled part proximate to the at least one second connection arrangement of the second pre-assembled part so as to form a connection site which includes at least a part of the at least one first connection arrangement and at least a part of the at least one second connection arrangement, sealingly arranging an enclosure about the connection site so as to seal the enclosure against an ingress of water, and connecting the first pre-assembled part and the second pre-assembled part at the connection site. Each of the first pre-assembled part and the second pre-assembled part are floatable.

  • Publication number: 20170247984
Abstract: A weak link arrangement (1) designed for location on an umbilical (6, 7) extending on the seabed between respective structures potentially subjected to environmental hazards, like being snapped by an iceberg, which umbilical includes communicating fluid pipes and electric cables, is described. The weak link arrangement (1) includes a seabed frame (2) supporting an umbilical having a weak link multiconnecting structure (3) (UTA) installed in line, which weak link multiconnecting structure (3) (UTA) ensures continuous communication through the fluid pipes and electric cables until emergency disconnection takes place. Such disconnection is initiated by accidental pull in the umbilical, which pull activates disconnecting means and cable severing means.

  • Patent number: 7059091
Abstract: A tension member comprising a plurality of fiber filaments gathered into a plurality of strands. The filaments run close together, and a protective sheath is provided around the strands. Each strand is coated on the exterior thereof with a strand sheath of a material having a low friction coefficient, permitting the strands to move longitudinally in relation to one another and independently of each other.

  • Patent number: 6988340
Abstract: An end termination for a tension leg of non-metallic materials like composite material is disclosed. The tension leg is constructed of a number of strands which constitute the load carrying elements of the tension leg. The strands are twisted (laid) about the longitudinal axis of the tension leg by a predetermined laying length and in turn each strand is constructed of a plurality of rods of composite material having embedded strength fibres. The rods are in turn twisted about each other like in a wire rope. The strands terminate into a receiving body that forms fixing points for the respective strands. The end termination comprises an embracing element that is spaced apart from the receiving body and keeps the strands together. Intermediate the embracing element and the receiving body the strands extend less radial restriction and in a substantially natural direction towards and into apertures in the receiving body.

  • Patent number: 6568875
Abstract: A connector in particular intended for use with a tension leg platform is disclosed. The connector comprises a male part (1) and a female part (2), which male part (1) is designed to engage in the female part (2) and the parts are able to engage with one another without any of the parts having to rotate in respect of the other. The female part (2) comprises an abutment ring having an internal continuous downward facing abutment shoulder (4) and the male part (1) has a discontinuous segmented ring (5). Each individual ring segment (8) is limitary independantly movable, both axially and radially, which segmented ring (5) lies slidably against a mandrel abutment (9).

  • Patent number: 6385928
Abstract: A tension member, for use as a tendon or tether for a tension leg platform consisting of a plurality of carbon fiber filaments (6) gathered into a plurality of strands (5) in which the filaments (6) run against one another, around which strands there is arranged a sheath (16). The tension member comprises pressure-resisting spacers (7) having recesses (9, 11, 12, 14; 25, 26, 28, 31) wherein the strands (5) are laid singly so that they can move in the longitudinal direction unobstructed by each other and the spacers (7).
