  • Patent number: 7547542
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for preparing a biological specimen (20), where the biological specimen (20), prior to being examined in e.g. a microscope, is dried, embedded in wax and optionally sliced, and where the biological specimen (20) is placed in a container (1) with a lid/clamping member (2) that is closed, in which it is retained by a biasing element (6), the specimen (20) remaining in the same closed container/lid (1, 2) during the subsequent drying and embedment operations, whereupon the container (1) is removed from the lid (2) and the specimen (20) prior to any slicing operations.

  • Patent number: 5209673
Abstract: Apparatus for coupling a subsea module to an umbilical termination head from a subsea installation which comprises a receiver (14) mounted on the module, a receiver (15) mounted on the umbilical, and a conductive insert coupling (CIC) (13). The receivers (13, 14) each have electrical terminal sets (24, 25). The CIC (13) has a pair of spaced electrical terminal sets (22, 23) in which respective terminals in each set are electrically connected by concentric conductive tubes. The receivers (14, 15) are arranged to receive the CIC (13) so that when it is in position in the receivers (14, 15), each of the CIC terminal sets (22, 23) contacts one of the receiver terminal sets (24, 25) thereby forming an electrical connection between the two receiver terminal sets (24, 25).

  • Patent number: 5103181
Abstract: Radio frequency bridge techniques are used to parameterize the complex dielectric properties of solids, liquids, gasses and mixtures thereof. This parameterization is performed in an electrically isolated, physically open structure which allows continuous or batch monitoring of the materials and their mixtures. A method and apparatus are provided for measuring the composition of mutlicomponent process streams flowing in pipes or ducts. The method uses the pipe in which the mixture flows as a waveguide in which propagating radio frequency electromagnetic energy is induced through dielectric loaded apertures. The dielectric measurement is performed in an electrically isolated, flow through test section which induces constructive or destructive interference patterns at characteristics frequencies. The characteristic frequency determines the dielectric constant of the mixture. The dielectric properties are used in turn to determine mixture composition.
