  • Patent number: 6868224
Abstract: During a fast forward search of a multimedia presentation, the audio portion of the multimedia presentation is pitch-adjusted and played back in order to assist the user in determining where within the multimedia presentation the playback currently is located. In another embodiment, the audio playback portion of the multimedia presentation can be buffered such that only intermittent portions of the audio are played back in such a manner that is audible to an end user in determining where in the multimedia presentation the playback routine is located. Another embodiment accommodates a multimedia presentation being reversed will have its audio portion buffered and played back in forward in order to assist the user in determining where in the multimedia presentation the rewind currently is. In addition, an individual word detect can be performed during the rewind whereby each word is individually detected and played forward after its detection.

  • Publication number: 20040226020
Abstract: A method, system and computer readable medium are described for using multiple operating systems in a single information handling device. A general operating system and at least one appliance operating system can be executed by the same information handling device. The general operating system is loaded from a mass storage device, and is used for handling most general tasks required of an information handling device. • Publication number: 20030222843
Abstract: Systems and methods for encoding control signals initiated from remote devices are disclosed. In one form, a device for processing control signals initiated from a remote device includes a receiver module operable to receive at least one signal including a process request. A media processing module coupled to the receiver module encodes information associated with initiating the process request with media information representing a media signal. As such, a process request encoded with the media information may be detected via a media processor operably associated with processing media information.

  • Patent number: 6252595
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a multi-state window is accomplished by presenting a multi-state window on a computer screen in various states. In a given state, or ghost state, the multi-state window for providing video and/or graphics is provided on screen in a translucent form. In the translucent form, a window overlapped by the multi-state window will be shown and remain in focus. When a user input is received in the overlapped portion, a multi-state window driver associated with the multi-state window will provide the input to the overlaid window, i.e., to its associated window driver or to the multi-state window driver depending upon the message type. If the user decides to activate the multi-state window, the multi-state window driver transforms the multi-state window from the translucent state to an in-focus state. When in the in-focus state, the user inputs are processed by the multi-state window driver and not provided to the overlaid window.
