The existing transponder in the aircraft can be removed thereby leaving an opening in the aircraft and the transponder installed in the opening.

A plurality of context dependent input devices is provided. Operation of at least one of the input devices may cause the processor to display a rotary selection list on the display screen. The rotary selection list includes multiple potential selections, each capable of effecting a change in the avionic system when highlighted. At least one of the input devices may be made up of at least one rotary knob. The processor displays a context dependent label for the rotary knob.
