  • Patent number: 9654171
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns receivers for use in nodes or devices that participate in wireless communications. In one exemplary embodiment, the receiver receives a first signal attributable to a first carrier and a second signal attributable to a second carrier. A first path searcher detects taps in the first signal attributable to the first carrier. A second path searcher detects taps in the second signal attributable to the second carrier. A channel tap selector selects, based on received energy values for taps detected by the first path searcher and the second path searcher, which tap values are to be used for taps of the receiver for both the first carrier and the second carrier.

  • Patent number: 9001866
Abstract: A communication node (115) with is arranged to receive signals from at least one antenna (120). A frequency domain conversion is executed (201) for two or more antenna signals by receiving (201a) a continuous signal from one of the at least one antenna (120), splitting (201b) the continuous antenna signal into windowed signals, and performing (201e) a frequency domain conversion of the windowed signals. Then, a channel estimate based on a frequency converted pilot signal is provided (202) by extracting (202a) a pilot signal, splitting (202b) the pilot signal into windowed signals, performing (202d) a frequency domain conversion of the split pilot signal; and providing (202e) a channel estimate of the frequency converted pilot signal. Diversity combined signals are provided (203) by performing (203a) diversity combining based on the frequency converted windowed signals and the channel estimate, and by combining (203c) the diversity combined signals.

  • Publication number: 20120213253
Abstract: The present solution relates to a method in a communication node (115) in a wireless communication system (100) for improving signal handling. The communication node (115) is arranged to receive signals from the at least one antenna (120). First, a frequency domain conversion is executed (201) for each antenna signal. The frequency domain conversion is done by receiving (201a) a continuous signal from one of the at least one antenna (120), splitting (201b) the continuous antenna signal into windowed signals, and by performing (201e) a frequency domain conversion of the windowed signals. Then, a channel estimate based on a frequency converted pilot signal is provided (202). Providing (202) the channel estimate is performed by extracting (202a) a pilot signal, splitting (202b) the pilot signal into windowed signals, performing (202d) a frequency domain conversion of the split pilot signal; and then by providing (202e) a channel estimate of the frequency converted pilot signal.

  • Patent number: 6535547
Abstract: A method for improving the performance of a random access communications system in a variable radio environment is disclosed, whereby at least one valid set of burst signatures is used for transmission by one or more mobile stations. Each set includes at least one signature with a different signature-length than the signatures in other sets. The different signature-lengths can be optimized for the operational environments involved (e.g., longer signatures for slower-moving mobile stations, and shorter signatures for high-speed mobile stations). Alternatively, at least one differentially-encoded signature is used for random access transmissions, in order to reduce the radio channel's sensitivity to large doppler spreads and frequency errors.
